National League Baseball Power Rankings: Updated July 27th 2009

Handicappers PicksJul 27, 2009

It’s time for the second half of the baseball betting season! Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s NL Power Poll with August upcoming and the trade deadline right around the corner. Click here to bet on MLB baseball at BetUS online sportsbook

1) Los Angeles Dodgers (62-36, +$1,967) (4-2, +$137 LW) (LW: 1) Is there any need to say anything about the Dodgers until October rolls around? Baseball bettors get the point. They’re good… really, really good.
On Deck: @ Cardinals, @ Braves

2) Colorado Rockies (54-44, +$1,012) (4-2, +$125 LW) (LW: 3) The Rockies won a big series with the Giants to open up a bit of breathing room for themselves in the NL Wild Card race. Still, there are reasonably six teams chasing them, which could make this September one of the most memorable in years.
On Deck: @ Mets, @ Reds

New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

3) Philadelphia Phillies (56-40, +$943) (5-2, +$265 LW) (LW: 4) The Phils are still hot, and they’re inching further away from the Braves and Marlins in the NL East race. The offense has put up at least nine runs in three of its L/4 games. A long West Coast swing is on deck.
On Deck: @ Diamondbacks, @ Giants

4) San Francisco Giants (52-46, +$718) (2-5, -$209 LW) (LW: 2) After dropping two out of three to the Rockies, the Giants really need to catch some fire now that they’re back at home. Twelve of their next 15 are in San Fran, but in that stretch are the Dodgers, Astros, and Phillies.
On Deck: vs. Pirates, vs. Phillies

5) Florida Marlins (51-48, +$447) (5-1, +$447 LW) (LW: 8) Just when you thought it was safe to write off the Marlins, they turn around and take five out of six on the road to claw back into the playoff picture. There’s a big question whether this team will make a move before Friday’s trade deadline or not, but they definitely shouldn’t be selling after taking two out of three in Dodgertown.
On Deck: vs. Braves, vs. Cubs

6) Houston Astros (50-48, +$327) (4-2, +$124 LW) (LW: 5) Not bad for a team who had an over/under season win total of 73.5, huh? The ‘Stros keep on keeping on, but this is the start of a tremendous stretch of games for them. Chicago, St. Louis, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Florida, Milwaukee again, and Florida again is what the upcoming schedule looks like. By the middle of August, we’ll know whether Houston is legit or not.
On Deck: @ Cubs, @ Cardinals

7) St. Louis Cardinals (53-48, -$145) (2-5, -$296 LW) (LW: 6) No one wants to win this division! The Cards have been caught by the Cubs after dropping three in Houston and two out of three in Philly this past weekend. With OF Matt Holliday now in the fold, St. Louis had better start gaining ground on all of the teams in the Central.
On Deck: vs. Dodgers, vs. Astros

8) Milwaukee Brewers (49-49, -$269) (2-4, -$216 LW) (LW: 9) Is this Milwaukee team really nothing more than a .500 club? The Brew Crew made the move of the trade deadline last year when they brought in CC Sabathia, who pitched them to the playoffs. It’s unlikely that there are enough prospects left in the farm system to lure over Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee to pull the same feat off this year.
On Deck: vs. Nationals, @ Padres

And the rest…

9) Chicago Cubs (51-45, -$331) (4-2, +$200 LW) (LW: 11)
10) Pittsburgh Pirates (43-55, -$387) (3-4, -$96 LW) (LW: 10)
11) Atlanta Braves (46-46, -$648) (3-1, +$196 LW) (LW: 13)
12) Cincinnati Reds (44-53, -$572) (0-6, -$600 LW) (LW: 7)
13) New York Mets (46-51, -$588) (3-3, +$52 LW) (LW: 12)
14) Arizona Diamondbacks (43-56, -$1,505) (4-3, +$129 LW) (LW: 15)
15) San Diego Padres (38-61, -$1,717) (1-6, -$508 LW) (LW: 14)
16) Washington Nationals (30-68, -$3,309) (4-3, +$60 LW) (LW: 16)
