Jesus Plays Rec Football

Religion and sports have long been associated as a couple, albeit estranged in many circles. Up until the age of Internets, signs like this …

… were the rule of thumb for any Jesus-enthused sports fan. Sure you had your occaisional wacko like the guy below, but on the whole, a simple sign did the trick.

Then as we grew older, faith shifted from fans in the stands to athletes. Wrestlers created their own Gospel-based faith and athletes professed their faith through reverent gesture and printed word on their eye-black.

But what about the fan in the stands? How can he or she upstage the athlete in sending out a personal message? Simple: go to the name on the back of the jersey.

Reader Matthew G. sent in this photo taken at Safeco Field during the Mariners/Indians contest this past Saturday. Jesus has yet to comment on the matter, but most members of his administration feel the use of rec-league football jerseys to convey faith is a positive step for society.

Whatever the case may be, all signs point to Jesus being his friend.
