World Series 2014: Odds and Prop Bets Info for Royals vs. Giants Game 5

Steven CookOct 26, 2014

Back and forth we go in the 2014 World Series, as the San Francisco Giants thwarted the Kansas City Royals' momentum to even the series heading into Game 5.

The Giants lineup was being questioned after putting up just four runs in the team's last two games, but the players answered said questions convincingly in Game 4. They exploded for an 11-4 victory to tie things up at two games apiece.

Not only did San Francisco's Game 4 win mean the series was tied, but it also guaranteed things will shift back to Kansas City for at least a Game 6, as MLB noted:

But before we worry about Game 6, let's focus on Game 5. The series is anyone's to win, and both teams will return their aces to the mound. The Giants are hoping Madison Bumgarner continues his historic World Series success, while the Royals are putting their stock in James Shields bouncing back from a poor Game 1.

Here's a quick breakdown of the odds for Game 5 and prop bets to make.

San Francisco Giants-1.550-79

Odds to Win World Series

Giants10-11
Royals10-11

This series is very much up in the air entering Game 5, and the even odds for each team to hoist the trophy reflect that.

Any edge you could argue the Giants have in Game 5 with Bumgarner over Shields on the mound you could negate by pointing out that it will be followed by two games in Kansas City without Bumgarner. Then again, road teams have won half of the games in this World Series.

Needless to say, to make this bet you've got to have either a serious hunch that the Giants are sure to continue their offensive success or fully believe the Royals are destined to cap off this improbable run with two more wins.

Odds to Win MVP

Madison Bumgarner, Giants5-1
Hunter Pence, Giants5-2
Pablo Sandoval, Giants11-2
Salvador Perez, Royals9-1
Eric Hosmer, Royals10-1
Kelvin Herrera, Royals12-1
Alcides Escobar, Royals14-1
Lorenzo Cain, Royals14-1
Omar Infante, Royals14-1

The Royals deservedly dominated the MVP odds after taking a 2-1 series lead into Game 4, but the Giants' top performers have surged to the top prior to Game 5.

With a chance to notch his second win of the World Series in a pivotal Game 5, Bumgarner has a high probability of achieving the honors. But Giants batters Hunter Pence and Pablo Sandoval—who combined for five hits and five RBI in Game 5—also face respectable odds.

One thing that does stick out, however, is how good of a time it may be to make this bet if you're expecting a Royals to rebound and win the series. Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar and Salvador Perez could all hit their way to MVP honors if Kansas City wins it.

World Series Correct Score

Royals win 4-312-5
Giants win 4-25-2
Giants win 4-33-1
Royals win 4-27-2

Oddsmakers look to be buying into the Giants' Game 4 victory, as they are receiving favorable odds to wrap up the series in either six or seven games.

With that said, a lot of folks are also expecting a Royals upheaval and a title victory in seven games, which would certainly make for an incredible atmosphere in Kauffman Stadium.

None of these odds stand out too much with only four end results still in play, but the biggest payout would be to take the Royals in six. When that includes betting against Bumgarner and two straight wins against this Giants lineup, however, it becomes apparent as to why.
