Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com had more on Wainwright's procedure:

Despite the injury, Wainwright was still sensational for the Cardinals this season. The right-hander finished the year at 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA, 179 strikeouts and three shutouts at the top of the rotation.

Will Carroll of Bleacher Report also added his take on the situation:

With Wainwright pitching through the injury during the season and excelling, it's likely that he will remain at the top of his game after the surgery.

Nothing is certain right now for the 33-year-old, but it's clear he is still pitching some of the best baseball of his career. Following the surgery, the Cardinals will need him healthy to start next season in order to return to the National League Championship Series.
