Lester Ks 9 As the Red Sox Roll Over Orioles 7-2!
The Red Sox have been doing as great as they would like. They let the Yankees back into first place by losing 5 in a row at one point. The Red Sox have recently aquired Adam Laroche from the Pirates. He is making his debut with the Red Sox today. Jon Lester was on the mound for the Red Sox. Lester is 8-0 in his career against the Orioles. Lester was facing a good Orioles pitcher, Jeremy Guthrie. Jeremy has pitched well this season, but has a record of only 7-8.
The Red Sox would strike first in the ballgame. Pedroia got on base with a walk with one out to get things going. After J.D. Drew struckout, Jason Bay singled to center, pedroia advanced to third on the play. David Ortiz would give Boston the lead. Ortiz homered to centerfield to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox would score again in the second inning. Varitek hit a one-out double to get things started. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a RBI double to centerfield to bring Varitek home and give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead. Lester was cruising by the Orioles until the 4th inning. Lester gave up a 1-out hit to Nolan Reimold, then walked Ty Wigginton. Lester stuckout Melvin Mora for his 7th strikeout of the game. Matt Wieters hit a RBI single to score Nolan Reimold for the Orioles first run of the game. Wieters advanced to second on the throwing error by J.D. Drew. The next batter, Cesar Izturis hit a RBI single to score Wigginton and make score 4-2 in favor of the Red Sox. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a RBI double in the bottom of the 4th inning to increase the Red Sox lead, 5-2. Lester would continue to dominate the Orioles after the 4th inning. Lester wouldn't allow another run in his outing. Lester lasted 7.1 innings until replaced by Daniel Bard. Lester struck out 9 allowed 8 hits and 2 runs. Bard retired 2 Orioles batters to get out of the 8th inning. Jeremy Guthrie didn't allow any runs past the 4th inning. He was taken out of the game in the 7th innin by henderson. Henderson was still pitching in the 8th inning. Henderson allowed a lead-off single to Mike Lowell. Adam Laroche was the next batter Henderson faced in the 8th inning. Laroche was 0-3 stepping to the plate. Laroche got his first hit as a Red Sox. He took the pitch Henderson gave him and pounded deep to left for a 2-run homer and extended the lead to 7-2. Ramon Ramirez closed things out for the Red Sox, not allowing the Orioles to score in the 9th inning and ended the game. Jon Lester got the win and improved to 9-7 on the season!
