UNDER 9.5 Boston Red Sox/Baltimore Orioles:
First of a three game set tonight at Fenway Park between the Orioles and the second place Red Sox. Good matchup with rookie Brad Bergesen going for the O’s with Brad Penny taking the hill for the Sox. Bergesen (6-4, 3.51) has been the lone bright spot in a really weak Orioles rotation. Help is on the way, as the O’s have the top pitching prospect in both Triple A (Chris Tillman, and Double A in Brian Matusz). For now though, Bergesen is the de facto ace and he’s done a great job. In fact, in 11 innings against Boston this year he’s pitched 11 innings and only allowed 1 run on 8 hits. Penny (6-4, 5.02) has been the subject of some trade rumors of late, however the Red Sox will probably hold on to him with the recent placement of Tim Wakefield on the disabled list. He’s done a solid, yet unspectacular job in ‘09, but does have 6 wins and has kept his team in the ballgame each time out.

UNDER 9.5 Oakland Athletics/New York Yankees:
Rookie lefty Brett Anderson (5-7, 4.25) has been lights out recently, in fact he hasn’t given up a run in his last 3 starts, spanning 21 innings. He’s struck out 18 and allowed only 7 hits during that span. Anderson is making a push for rookie of the year in a season with so many good young pitchers (Romero, Porcello, Bergesen…etc). Joba Chamberlain (5-2, 4.05) has been up and down this season but is coming off his best start of the year last Sunday against Detroit where he allowed just 1 run and struck out 8. We expect a low scoring game tonight at Yankee Stadium between two exciting young pitchers.
