ESPN's Adam Schefter provides an update on Martellus Bennett's status for Week 11:

Original Text:

Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett sat out of Friday's practice with injured ribs.

Bears sideline reporter Zach Zaidman reported the news:

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune adds more:

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times has more detail as well:

"

Bennett was injured during practice on Thursday. The Bears listed him on the injury report as limited that day.

“It was just kind of awkward on the practice field,” Trestman said. “That’s kind of all there was. He twisted a little bit and we’ll see where he is.”

"

Back in late September, Bennett downplayed grinding it out and remaining on the field in pain:

Now the hope is that Bennett can take the time to get healthy and not push himself too hard to return to the gridiron in light of that quote.

Through the beginning of the 2014 campaign, both big-bodied receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery were banged up, leaving Bennett to pick up the slack while they were hobbled. Now one of the league's best wideout duos will have to do something similar in Bennett's stead.

The trio of massive targets has helped Bears quarterback Jay Cutler settle into a bit of a comfort zone amid his second season in coach Marc Trestman's offensive system. Missing someone like Bennett will make red-zone trips a bit more challenging, but Marshall, Jeffery and even running back Matt Forte remain as viable options in the scoring area.

Next up at tight end is Dante Rosario, who is a decent receiver and can at least provide some threat in the passing game.
