I Am Now 99 Percent Certain That Ricky Rubio Will Play Next Season
With my latest article, I've made some very interesting points about Ricky Rubio's chances coming to the Minnesota Timberwolves using very strong opinions based off of common sense, and facts.
I've stated that I thought that Minnesota had a 95 percent chance of landing Ricky Rubio this season. Well now, it's more like 99 percent.
Why the sudden jump?
The whole reason as to why Ricky Rubio could not immediately get to Ricky Rubio was because of his buyout situation. If you need more depth on that, you can check out my latest article.
Endorsement Deals
It now turns out that the "David Kahn trip" is paying off.
A Spanish Media report said that when David Kahn went to Spain, he had a list of Minnesota companies that were willing to sign Ricky Rubio to endorsement deals for a sum of $4 million.
Add on the extra $500,000 that he will receive from the Timberwolves, and that totals up to $4.5 million. The buyout could cost his as much as 6.6 Million, so Ricky Rubio could have to pay $2.1 million out of his own pocket. Compared to $6.6 million, $2.1 million seems much more doable.
Ricky Rubio Leaving DKV
Regardless of whether Rubio makes the trip across the Atlantic next season, he won’t be playing at Joventut.
“I want to continue with the club but, after everything that’s happened, I don’t think they’re too comfortable having me in their squad,” Rubio said Wednesday. “I want to play in a winning team, on a team that can achieve many things.”
Options
Ricky Rubio now has three options:
- He could pay the buyout and play for the Minnesota Timberwolves next season.
- He could sit out a year of professional basketball, and be drafted again.
- He could play for another Euro league team.
Sitting out is highly unlikely and completely idiotic.
If Ricky Rubio were to sit out one year, then that means he could be drafted again. But by sitting out, he would not be able to get paid because he could not play for a professional team. That would mean that Ricky Rubio would still have to pay a buyout to opt out his contract with no money coming in, and possibly having his current endorsement deals revoked.
To me, that is complicating the problem worse.
Playing for another Euro League team is unlikely as well, and not as idiotic, but it's not an Einstein move at all.
If Ricky Rubio were to play with another Euro League team, he still has to have the buyout paid to DKV. Not only that, but there could be more obstacles to overcome with the Spanish IRS and would have to take a long term contract.
To me, that is just not a good move.
The best move right now, would be to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves, take the endorsements, and buyout his contract. He would make way more money over here in endorsements, and not to mention his NBA contract.
He would take out loans and make the payments over the year in the NBA. If he plays well, then there's a possibility that he would get an extension early on, and would have even more money.
It seems that Minnesota is warming up despite the cold weather.
It's all in place, and I expect to see a press conference on the matter in a week or so.
