Under 9.5 Arizona Diamondbacks/Colorado Rockies:
Good pitching matchup today at Coors Field between Jon Garland and Ubaldo Jimenez. Each team has won a game in this series and look to take the final of this three game set. Garland (5-9, 4.45) has really been on a nice roll of late after a rough start to his Diamondbacks career. His last 4 starts have really been excellent, as he’s pitched 26 innings and only allowed 7 runs. The problem has been the Arizona offense has been unable to score a lot of runs for him, thus the 5-9 record. Expect him to keep his team in the game, and hopefully the D’Backs can pick him up a little. Jimenez (7-9, 3.82) pretty much suffers from the same problem as Garland. For whatever reason, the Rockies have a hard time scoring for him when he pitches. As for Jimenez stats, he’s been great recently, going 28 innings and allowing 10 runs in that span. His strikeout numbers have been great, as he’s struck out 26 in his last 3 outings. Look for a low scoring, close game tonight at Coors.

OVER 9 Minnesota Twins/Oakland Athletics:
Two typically low scoring teams will have pitchers who are struggling on the hill this afternoon, so we like the over 9 runs in this one. Each team has won a one run game so far in this series, and today is the rubber match. Young lefty Glen Perkins will take the mound for the Twins, while Rookie righty Trevor Cahill goes for Oakland. Perkins (5-5, 4.75) has been the epitome of inconsistent in 2009. He was terrible in April, got sent down for a bit, was great in late May/Early June, but has been awful since. His last 2 starts he’s allowed 7 runs in just 9 innings. If his 2009 trend continues, he’ll struggle again this afternoon. Cahill (5-8, 4.72) is much of the same, very inconsistent, but he’s been worse lately than Perkins has. In fact, Cahill’s last 4 starts he’s yielded 19 runs in just 17 innings. Brutal numbers, but the A’s will keep sending him out there as they expect him to be an important part of their future. Alon with Lefty Brett Anderson, the A’s hope to have a solid 1-2 punch for years to come.
