Halladay Not Worth It in The Long Run For Yanks

Steven earlJul 20, 2009

For a team their X-mas present might come early for them when they land arguably the best pitcher in baseball. The cost for this present will be an arm and two legs. One of the shoppers are the New York Yankees, who love to shop no matter the cost as long as they are good. In my view being a Yankee fan i don't want the Yankees to spend all that money (prospects) to land Roy Halladay. The Yankees have spent a few years trying to build their farm system up so they don't have to rely on the Free Agents and trades to build this team.

The Yankees are in the mist of producing a great catcher in Jesus Montero, an outfielder in Austin Jackson and of course their two pitchers Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlin. If we look at the Yankees we see a team that is old and not athletic anymore while we see the Red Sox, Rays, Orioles and even the Blue Jays getting younger and better. The Yankees have Johnny Damon who is horrible in the field, Jorge that can't play the backstop anymore but still has a great bat, Matsui that has bad knees and can't run, Andy that in my eyes that has nothing left in his tank. The two old guys that can still play are of course Jeter and Rivera.

If Cashman does trade for doc Halladay the Yankees will be getting a 32 year old pitcher, a hefty contract, a year and a half then he will be a free agent and also if J.P does trade him then he would throw in Wells, a player that is making $126 million over 7 years. To get Halladay and Wells, as a throw in, the Yankees would have to give up Hughes or Joba, Jackson, Montero, Melancon and another player, Who's the real winner in this trade?

I say the Yankees and the fans need to drop the Halladay trade to the Bronx. The Yankees have other choices to choose from like Bronson Aroyo, Cliff Lee, Fausto Carmona or they can look within. All those guys i mentioned will not cost the Yankees that much in the way of prospects and money. I don't see the Indians trading Lee but it won't hurt the Yankees to see how much he would be to get. I think the Yankees need to sit back and wait till Halladay becomes a free agent so all the Yankees would have to give up is money and yet keep Montero, Jackson, and Hughes.

We seen some of the young bucks like Pena, Hughes, Joba and Cerveilli. The Yankees have good prospects but if they trade for Halladay then we wont see this team get younger. Let me close out by saying this: If the Yankees trade and land Halladay then lets say Jeter, A-Rod, Tex and even Jorge go down with an injury who would the Yankees use to fill those spots cuz we see the Mets having this issue right now.
