"My shoulder was hurting during the game, but I wasn’t too worried about it more than I was the ankle,” he said on Tuesday. “I was pretty surprised (it was broken), but it was hurting pretty bad the next day. It’s tough….I think it’s possible (to play again). I mean, I couldn’t play on it this past week, but we’ll see what happens.
"

Allen Injures Ankle, MRI On Monday
Sunday, Dec. 15
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen is dealing with an apparent ankle that forced him to leave the team's Week 15 contest against the Denver Broncos.
ProFootballTalk's Darin Gantt provided more information about the ailment:
"Keenan Allen was just hauled back to the locker room after trainers look him over on the sidelines. There’s no official word on his condition, but his right ankle was taped earlier, and that’s the leg he had elevated before being taken away.
"
Allen was later listed as questionable to return, via Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.
After the game, coach Mike McCoy provided an update via Gehlken:
"His ankle was taped on the sideline following the injury, as he re-entered to finish the half. He played early in the third quarter before it became clear he couldn't continue.
Allen sat on the sideline, his right leg elevated on the bench before he was carted to the locker room. He is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday.
"
It's the second notable injury Allen has been forced to overcome so far this season. A groin issue bothered him ahead of the team's Week 3 clash with the Buffalo Bills. He suited up after being a game-time decision, but finished with just two catches for 17 yards.
Despite those lackluster numbers, Eric Williams of ESPN noted at the time that the problem didn't seem to have an impact on his route running:
Although he was able to play through the injury, it was part of a slow start to the season. Big things were expected from Allen after his outstanding rookie campaign, but he struggled to make the same type of impact out of the gates.
In fact, the most headlines he made were for comments about Richard Sherman. After a matchup with the high-profile corner, Terry Blount of ESPN passed along remarks from the second-year wideout, who was unimpressed.
"He's just a normal guy," Allen said. "We can go at him. We took some shots at him. We are not going to shy away from him. He's not really a shutdown corner. We definitely wanted to come out and show we could go any way we wanted to and that we were in control of the game."
Aside from that brief media firestorm it's been a relatively quiet season for him. And now he's dealing with another injury concern.
The question is how severe the injury is and whether it will keep him sidelined. More information should be available following further evaluation.
If Allen were to miss game action, the Chargers would likely use a committee to replace him. Fellow receivers Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal would both be in line for more targets while Antonio Gates is likely to solidify himself as the top target in key situations.
An extended absence would also open the door for Ladarius Green. A popular breakout pick, the rejuvenation of Gates has limited his playing time. But his versatility and athleticism should allow him to see more snaps if Allen is out for awhile.
Philip Rivers has enjoyed success without an elite receiving corps, but his mettle will be tested again unless Allen is able to make another rapid recovery.
