Allsports thinks the Mets are worse off than the Blue Jays
Last week (just before the all star break) I wrote an article on the sad state of the Toronto Blue Jays called “Allsports thinks J.P. Riccardi has to Go“. If you follow sports on the web maybe you read it. In most divisions, the Jays would still be in the hunt but since they are in the American League East it is very unlikely they can catch the division leading Red Sox or the Wild Card Yankees at this point.
Today I will take a look at the New York Mets and why they are worse off than the Blue Jays.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
With the Jays at least you have Roy Halladay who in my opinion is the class pitcher in the MLB. He always gives you a solid start and a chance to win every time he takes the mound. What more can you ask for in a pitcher.
The Mets on the other hand have no such go to guy. They are rudderless with no one to keep them honest and steer them to hold the course. The main reason they are in dire straights (band link) is that they are a bunch of coddled millionaires, there to make the gravy with little or no concern for the won/loss record. There salary cap is over the top but they seem to be just playing out the string.
Allsports would like to see them do well but they need a captain that will keep everyone accountable much like Derek Jeter on the hated Yankees. Allsports has always had the greatest respect (grudgingly, lol) for Jeter. The guy earns his millions, keeps a level head, plays at a high level every night and never puts himself above the team. Are you listening Alex Rodriguez you over blown, big headed jerk that has never won anything in crunch time.
Anyway to say the least Jeter is allsports consummate ball player and would look soooo good in a Blue Jays uniform. Yeah like that would ever happen.
Anyway I digress, the Mets mirror the Blue Jays in the fact that they are playing about 500 ball but their salary structure is way above what the Blue Jays pay. The Mets have about 147 million (2nd to the Yankees) on the books compared to the Blue Jays at about 81 million (16th in the Majors). They need a guy like Jeter or Doc Halladay to wake them up and keep them accountable. The Mets still have a chance to catch Philly and they should thank their lucky stars they don’t have to deal with the likes of the Red Sox or Yankees the way the Blue Jays do. The way its looking now anyway it could be a moot point as allsports thinks the L.A. Dodgers will represent the National League in the World Series with Boston coming out of the American League. Boston is allsports second favorite team and we are hoping Doc Halladay will go there. If so allsports feels that Doc will get a well deserved World Series ring.
The root of the Mets problem can be sumed up with one thing. How can you pay a guy like Gary Sheffield 14 million dollars a year? He is 40 years old with his best days behind him and you will be lucky if he is a good utility player at best.
