Jace Amaro, Jeff Cumberland's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 3
The New York Jets suddenly have a rather intriguing tight end duo for fantasy owners to mull over. Wide receiver Eric Decker left the team's Monday Night Football contest against the Chicago Bears due to a hamstring injury, according to the NFL Network's Kimberly Jones:

With Decker out of the game, we began to see a glimpse of the role Jeff Cumberland and Jace Amaro will be playing on the team's offense.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Here's a look at how both tight ends fared on Monday:
Quarterback Geno Smith began to set his sights on Cumberland, targeting him six times—good enough to rank third on the team—however, he had difficulty connecting with the tight end, as he only reeled in three catches for 18 yards. Cumberland is without much athleticism and doesn't appear capable of stretching the field.
On the other hand, Amaro—the rookie out of Texas Tech—flashed his skill set on Monday night. He burned the Bears secondary for a 43-yard reception in the first half. Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune tweeted how the rookie got it done:
| Jace Amaro | 4 | 3 | 54 | 0 |
| Jeff Cumberland | 6 | 3 | 18 | 0 |
It didn't all go swimmingly for the tight end. Shortly after, he dropped a perfectly thrown ball, failing to convert a Jets third-down attempt. Brad Evans of Yahoo Sports made his opinion known:
Still, Smith went back to Amaro in the fourth quarter, and the tight end redeemed himself by converting a crucial third down. He was relied upon shortly after, gaining just enough to move the sticks on a fourth down.
Going forward, Cumberland may be a more reliable target; however, he isn't any kind of threat to put up significant fantasy points. He should be left on the waiver wire unless a replacement is needed in very deep leagues.
As for Amaro, he could be a sneaky waiver-wire addition heading into Week 4. He's only owned in 0.9 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues and could be worth a shot—especially if Decker misses time with a lingering hamstring injury.
For now, consider Amaro a bench player with enough upside to warrant a starting role at some point this season.
