Alshon Jeffery's Updated Fantasy Outlook After Brandon Marshall's Injury

Sean ODonnellSep 22, 2014

The Chicago Bears offense suffered a huge blow during Monday Night Football against the New York Jets when star wide receiver Brandon Marshall went down with an apparent ankle injury. This is concerning, considering the receiver has been hampered by this nagging injury since September 10.

Here's how each receiver fared against the Jets:

Marshall was originally considered probable to return to action on Monday; however, after a trip to the locker room, he was downgraded to questionable, according to the team's official Twitter account:

Luckily for the Bears, Marshall was able to give it a go after the half, according to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune:

Even with Marshall back in the game, Alshon Jeffery saw an increased amount of targets due to his hindered counterpart. Marshall wasn't very effective—and may have been hurting—recording just one reception for six yards.

Jeffery was targeted a team-high 13 times on Monday, hauling in eight receptions for 105 yards. His 6'3", 216-pound frame, great leaping ability and excellent hands ensured his consistent production despite a less-than-100-percent Marshall on the other side of the field.

Now more than ever, Jeffery is a must-start wide receiver for fantasy owners and should be considered a high-end WR1.
