Bishop Sankey, Shonn Greene's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 3

Sean ODonnellSep 21, 2014

The Tennessee Titans' running game faced a tall order on Sunday when they traveled north to take on the red-hot Cincinnati Bengals defense. Veteran Shonn Greene and rookie Bishop Sankey produced mixed results.

Sankey was finally given some carries on Sunday, and he produced in a favorable manner. The rookie rushed 10 times for 61 yards—an average of 6.1 yards per attempt—with a long run of 18 yards.

His ability to pick up chunks of yards against Cincinnati bodes well for his future use, as head coach Ken Whisenhunt should be expected to use Sankey alongside Greene in a committee approach.

Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean tweeted his take on the rookie's performance:

As Sankey's role in Tennessee's offense evolves, so will his fantasy value. For now, consider him a flex option with the upside to become a full-time starter this season.

Greene has been the team's primary ball-carrier early in the 2014 season, and he averaged a healthy 5.6 yards per carry over the first two weeks. However, against a stout front seven, he found little breathing room, averaging just 3.3 yards per rush against the Bengals—Greene carried 10 times for 33 yards.

One redeeming quality the running back possesses is his role in goal-line situations. Even with Sunday's game well out of hand, Greene plunged one yard into the end zone for the team's only score.

NFL Fantasy Football tweeted a reaction to the touchdown:

Fantasy owners shouldn't expect big yards from the veteran running back going forward—especially against better defenses and a potential impending timeshare with the more athletic Sankey. Greene's value will come from touchdowns, so consider him a spot starter or flex option.
