Jerome Williams 1st to Beat a Club 3 Times Pitching for 3 Separate Teams

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 24, 2014

When Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams earned a win against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon, he became the first pitcher in MLB history to defeat one club as a member of three different teams in a single year, per MLB Stat of the Day.

Williams' first victory against the Athletics came back on April 26 as a reliever for the Houston Astros. He entered a tie game that was broken in the next frame by a barrage of Houston hits and hung on for the win despite allowing a three-run homer to Brandon Moss in the ninth inning.

The right-hander had to wait until July 25 for his next victorious decision against the A's, and this time he earned the win as a starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers. Williams limited Oakland to just one run on five hits over six innings, striking out four in the winning effort.

His third victory over Oakland also came as a starter. Cashing in on arguably his best performance of the season, Williams fanned three over seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk in Saturday's game.

Over 20 innings pitched (five appearances) against the A's in 2014, Williams owns a 2.25 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, representing a significant improvement over his season-long numbers of 4.71 and 1.39, respectively. He's struck out 10 Athletics batters, and that home run back in April was his only major mistake against them this year.

Williams has pitched for seven different major league teams over his nine-year career, and the journeyman will once again find himself looking for a new home in 2015.
