Updates from Wednesday, Sept. 24

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune provides an update on the incident, courtesy of Bears defensive lineman Lamarr Houston:

"

Now that Glazer’s report has been out there –- though denied by Kaepernick -– Houston confirmed that is what happened.

“He was just saying inappropriate language,” Houston told the Tribune on Monday night at MetLife Stadium. He said Kaepernick cursed at him, including using the N-word.

Asked if he was insulted, Houston said it's more a “cultural thing.” Houston reiterated that he incensed Kaepernick on the play by saying “nice pass” at the end of a Kyle Fuller interception.

"

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee has Jim Harbaugh's thoughts on the punishment:

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick reportedly will appeal an $11,000 fine for using inappropriate language on the field.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports passed along the news on Twitter:

Janie McCauley of The Associated Press initially reported the fine:

Kaepernick commented on the fine after the 49ers' 23-14 loss to the Cardinals via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com and Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle:

Kaepernick repeatedly denied using any slurs on the field, per Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. The San Francisco signal-caller said, "I didn't say anything," and answered yes when asked if he was shocked when the referee said he used inappropriate language.

He reiterated that earlier in the week, via McCauley:

"

It will be appealed. I didn't say anything. Lamarr Houston said I didn't say anything. We're going to leave it at that.

... The player that I supposedly said something to has been quoted saying that I didn't say anything, and I don't know him, so it's not like he would have a reason to just randomly stick up for me.

"

On the field, Kaepernick has thrown for 449 yards and three touchdowns, but had three interceptions against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. The Niners quarterback struggled as the team lost 28-20 in the first regular-season game at Levi's Stadium on Sunday night.

The debate continues to rage on surrounding the incident. With a tough divisional opponent in the Arizona Cardinals on tap in Week 3, Kaepernick will need to be focused to help the 49ers move to 2-1 on the young season.
