Updates from Sunday, Sept. 28

Sam Charchidi of Philly.com speculates on when fans could see Claude Giroux make his preseason debut:

"

Claude Giroux again took part in practice and made progress, and it wouldn't be surprising if he played in his first preseason game Tuesday.

"

Updates from Thursday, Sept. 25

Randy Miller of NJ.com has an update on Giroux's status:

"

Giroux, out since suffering a lower-body injury last Friday, won't play in Thursday night's home preseason game against the Devils, but his appearance shows that he's apparently getting healthy.

Giroux, dressed in a white Flyers practice jersey, stretched at center ice with others who joined the morning skate late before doing some light skating and shooting. He did not participate in any drills.

After the Flyers left the ice, Giroux went to the other Skate Zone rink to get in some more skating with others who won't play Thursday night.

Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer provides an update on Claude Giroux's injury:

Original Text:

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is expected to miss around two weeks of action after suffering a lower-body injury on the first day of on-ice work at training camp.

The team announced his status on its official site. The report notes that he was forced to leave the ice after only about 15 minutes of work due to the injury. The exact ailment wasn't made available, but the Flyers confirmed it wasn't lingering from over the offseason.

Also included were comments from general manager Ron Hextall, who suggested the extra energy on Day 1 of camp played a role.

"This just happened today. It's the first day of camp and guys go 100 miles per hour and things happen," he said. "Obviously it's not the way you want to start. That's the hand we were dealt and we're going to deal with it."

Howard Eskin of Fox 29 TV reports it's believed he's dealing with a hip issue:

Luckily for Philadelphia, the initial timetable suggests that Giroux should be ready for the start of the regular season against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 8, barring any setbacks. It means he probably won't take part in any of the exhibition contests, though.

The center ranked third in the NHL with 86 points, including 28 goals, lin 2013-14. Only Sidney Crosby and Ryan Getzlaf had more, which illustrates exactly how important the 2006 first-round pick is to the team's success.

Given the length of the season, the Flyers are likely to play it safe with Giroux. If he's not all the way back to full strength by opening night, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him out of the lineup. They don't want to risk a more serious injury that could derail their season.

More information about his availability should be made known as Oct. 8 draws closer.
