T.O. Hopes to Show Other Side with Reality Show
Buffalo Bills receiver Terrell Owens, who was released by the Cowboys this off-season, hopes that the world sees a different side of T.O. when his new reality series begins airing tomorrow on VH-1.
"Terrell you'll see pretty much on this show," Owens said. "It's pretty much to the 'T' of how I am. I mean, it's reality."
Jesse Ignjatovic, who's the producer of the show, was surprised by how much T.O. let the production crew film.
"What did surprise me is the depth that he was willing to go to in the show emotionally and also reflecting on his own life and shortcomings and things he wants to do to make him a better man," Ignjatovic said. "He really shows some sides of himself and really exposes his emotions in ways that I never thought possible."
T.O. definitely is a me-first player, which is typical of many receivers. But in many ways, T.O. is unfairly criticized in the media.
With the ESPYs to be aired tonight on ESPN, I remember the story from last year's ESPYs about T.O., which didn't seem to get a lot of press (or my memory is shot, or both).
If you don't remember, T.O. came to the rescue of ESPN reporter Sam Alipour and as Alipour wrote, "So, T.O. was nice, huh?" says the medic who took [Alipour's] blood pressure inside the ambulance. "Boy, you think you know somebody, but the media doesn't tell you the whole story. You never know how they really are."
Despite being a nice guy (some times) off the field, T.O.'s me-first attitude (often) makes him a cancer in the locker room.
In Dallas, Owens felt secure with a long-term contract, an owner that enabled him and weak leaders who seemed reluctant to confront him. For those reasons, I still feel cutting T.O. was the right move for the Cowboys' organization as his me-over-the-team attitude divided (or created a bigger division) in the locker room.
On the other hand, I still think the Bills made a good move in getting a very talented albeit aging receiver who will be very motivated to quiet the critics and to land a subsequent contract.
