Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 1
In standard leagues, it took Calvin Johnson a whopping 10 minutes to entrench himself as Week 1's No. 2 fantasy football wide receiver.
On the third play from scrimmage, the New York Giants lost track of the most dangerous receiver in the NFL for a 67-yard touchdown, and Megatron proceeded to finish off the next drive with a marvelous 16-yard diving grab for the score.
Even LeBron James was colored impressed:

Just like that, three catches, 98 yards and two touchdowns. On Thursday or Sunday, only Allen Hurns—obviously—had a better 60 minutes than Johnson's first quarter.
Of course, he would go on to also pass Hurns, as well, dominating the Giants' defensive backs on his way to a monster evening:

After Josh Gordon and Demaryius Thomas outscored Johnson in 2013, with A.J. Green, Brandon Marshall and Dez Bryant not far behind, it seemed the once-cavernous gap between Megatron and every other pass-catcher was diminishing.
That's still true, but the Decepticon is still at the peak.
Yes, the instinctual reaction—behind, "Calvin Johnson is really good at footballing"—is to write this off because it's against the Giants, whom everyone loves to make fun of. But with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Walter Thurmond, Prince Amukamara and Antrel Rolle, this is hardly a terrible secondary.
Don't think about selling high on Johnson. Hold onto him, and enjoy arguably the most consistent skill player (non-QBs) in fantasy football.
As for Matthew Stafford, it's not always pretty, but he racks up numbers either way. Take a look at his final pristine line, which ranked second in both QB and "Matt" scoring Week 1:

NFL Philosophy and The Detroit News' Rod Beard praised the sixth-year QB:
You likely drafted him as the fourth or fifth QB off the board, and that's a good way to treat him moving forward. He's clearly going to continue throwing a lot (he would have thrown a lot more than 32 times if the Lions weren't up by 20 in the third quarter) under new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who is over from the New Orleans Saints, and he has a slew of weapons. New weapon Golden Tate, as well as Reggie Bush, caught six balls, while Joseph Fauria, Brandon Pettigrew, Eric Ebron and Joique Bell are all capable in the passing game.
There will be some moments that leave you scratching your head, but Stafford has top-three QB upside in this offense.
