DeMarco Murray, Dwayne Harris' Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 1

R. Cory SmithSep 7, 2014

It has been an abysmal day so far for the Dallas Cowboys, but DeMarco Murray has made the most of his opportunities. While quarterback Tony Romo has struggled, Murray has carried the team offensively, and Dwayne Harris has provided at least a spark.

While Harris wasn't much of a contributor overall, Murray showed the same explosiveness from last season in the opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Matt Maiocco of CSN provides a look at the early production from Murray in the lopsided contest:

Though he was explosive during the first half, he also lost a fumble and points for his fantasy owners. Murray's thrilling performance on the whole was impressive enough to make owners forget about the one blemish on the day, though.

The passing offense was inept behind Romo early on, with the quarterback throwing three interceptions in the first half alone. Murray was forced to be the workhorse and more than lived up to the billing.

On the day, he eventually finished with 22 carries for 118 yards and a rushing touchdown along with three receptions and 25 yards. As the stat line reads, he was a fantasy owners' dream in Week 1.

As for Harris, the wide receiver was actually one of the only other components in the running game. With a nine-yard run, the former ECU receiver had nine yards of his own with another fumble.

Harris would also put up one of the lone highlights of the second half for the Cowboys with a huge reception. NFL Red Zone notes the outstanding play for Harris:

But one of the biggest plays came when Romo missed him in the end zone on a pass play. Rowan Kavner of DallasCowboys.com pointed out the play and subsequent result:

Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram also points out just how obvious the pass play was:

The reception and one rush would be the only production for Harris. But after shining on special teams last year, Harris is already showing flashes on the offense. Though it likely not be enough to make him a waiver-wire add, it's at least enough to put him on the radar.

While Murray provided a glimmer of hope for the Cowboys, the stable behind him appears uncertain. If he can continue to stay healthy and keep his status atop the depth chart, fantasy owners will continue to rack up points.

But if fumbles like the one early in the first half become a problem, that might serve as a setback for owners. After fumbling the ball just three times last season, losing the ball likely won't be an issue for the Cowboys lead back.
