He was released at 8:37 a.m. PT on Saturday following his arrest.
John Canzano of The Oregonian is reporting that prior to Lyerla's arrest, he was trying to negotiate a potential interview:
"A little more than two hours before he was arrested, at 11:44 p.m., Lyerla was busy trying to cut a deal for a tell-all interview with me. Lyerla indicated via text message to Noah Homsley, my radio producer on 750-AM The Game, that he was willing to talk to me --- for the right price.
"After speaking with my agent," Lyerla texted, "if you guys want to pay me to have me on the show then we will do it."
The former Oregon tight end asked for $5,000. Homsley told Lyerla we don't pay for interviews, and asked Lyerla if SB Nation had paid a fee to him for the interview in which Lyerla claimed a mystery Ducks booster had promised him a house and a car for committing to Oregon out of Hillsboro High.
Lyerla shot back: "Can't discuss other business. But I apologize. I meant 10k but I'll split the difference at 7.5k."
"
After an up-and-down tenure with Oregon, Lyerla left the program due to personal reasons. He was given a chance with the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted following his time in Eugene.
Packers general manager Ted Thompson referenced Lyerla after the team signed him, per Tyler Dunne of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
"Every case is an individual case," Thompson said. "I’ve always believed there are certain things that people can atone for, acknowledge their mistakes and get on with their lives. I’m a proponent of those kinds of people that try to do that. That’s where we’re at with Colt."

Unfortunately, Lyerla was later waived by the Packers, becoming a free agent in the NFL. While he was cut by the Packers, it was reportedly due to a knee injury he suffered.
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report provides his thoughts on the tight end:
As for a career in the NFL, that might be in serious doubt after his latest arrest. With prior issues, including an arrest last year for cocaine possession, Lyerla would have been best suited remaining out of headlines and working toward bettering himself to make an NFL team.
Aaron Nagler of Sports Illustrated passed along his thoughts regarding the player's future:
With the latest arrest, Lyerla's outlook is clearly uncertain. After being given an opportunity by the Packers, being under suspicion of driving under the influence is yet another setback for the talented yet troubled tight end.
Former Oregon and current Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly spoke to the ability of Lyerla years ago, per George Schroeder of USA Today:
While Lyerla might have the ability and skill set to play the position at the NFL level, the questions surrounding him off the field are concerning. He might have compiled 11 touchdowns in 2011-12 at Oregon, but having the talent isn't always enough to play in the NFL.
If he wants to have a chance at making another roster, he'll need to prove he can make better decisions moving forward.
