US Open 2014 Results: Latest Scores and Schedule for Day 12
When the dust settles on Day 12 at Flushing Meadows, champions will be crowned, and the participants in the women's final will be revealed.
While Day 11 saw No. 2 Roger Federer emerge as the victor in a five-set classic against No. 20 Gael Monfils, Friday's slate in no way lacks similar star power with dominant players, such as No. 1 Serena Williams and No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki, not to mention the top-seeded mixed doubles duo, in action.
Below, let's take a look at the day's schedule and examine what has transpired and what Arthur Ashe Stadium still has in store for fans.

Notable Results
No. 1 Sania Mirza & Bruno Soares def. Abigail Spears & Santiago Gonzalez, 6-1, 2-6, 11-9

Sania Mirza and Bruno Soares continued their flirtation with defeat that had followed them throughout the tournament Friday with a three-set triumph over Abigail Spears and Santiago Gonzalez, making it four times in five matches the two allowed things to go to three sets.
It matters little now that the top seeds are the champs, though.
The tournament's Twitter account captured the moment:
To get there, the duo fired off 19 winners and 11 unforced errors to their opponent's 14. They also hit 80 percent of their first serves in and won a critical 73 percent of their second-serve points in the process.
For Mirza, the triumph marks her third Grand Slam mixed doubles title, while Soares picks up his second at the U.S. Open. Mirza now sits one mixed doubles win away from a crowning achievement, and based on her current play, it might come sooner rather than later.
Matchup to Watch
No. 1 Serena Williams vs. No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova

No. 1 Serena Williams has her Friday opponent to thank for such an easy path to the women's final.
If she can beat her, of course.
Were there such a thing as "trap matches" in tennis, this would be it for Williams. No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova is red hot in the best kind of way.
After three straight-set victories in a row to start the tournament, the Russian star took down No. 7 Eugenie Bouchard, 7-6, 6-4, before silencing the hot hand of No. 16 Victoria Azarenka, 6-4, 6-2.
Williams herself has been on quite the tear after a recent tournament win. She has won five straight-set matches so far, the most recent being the first over a seeded opponent, No. 11 Flavia Pennetta, 6-3, 6-2.
Makarova, though, says that her recent experiences against Williams give her good vibes about Friday's encounter, as captured by the New York Post's David Satriano:
"Well, she’s a great and tough player. But once I beat her already, so I have a great memory. I have a great feeling of that match. Definitely [have] to stay aggressive, because she’s so aggressive. And I need to be a little bit more aggressive than she is.
"
Makarova has arguably the most momentum of any player in the tournament, though, and provides Williams with a unique challenge because she is left-handed.
The final match of Day 12 is obviously one fans will want to catch thanks to this layer of intrigue and a spot in the final hanging in the balance.
