All-Star Break Odds and Ends

Blake VandeBunteJul 14, 2009

Perhaps after last night's doughnut by Brandon Inge at the Home Run Derby, he was thinking that Armando Galarraga would have been the better call to lay them in there to him.

Bullpen catcher Scott Pickens was his pick and Pickens did his best Verlander impression. Again, Galarraga would have been the wiser move. After all, Armando has served up 17 bombs in just 99 innings so far this year.

As for that goose egg that Inge laid, it was the first zero since Jason Bay in 2005 at Comerica Park. Hey, at least you are in good company, Inge.

Carlos Guillen began his rehab last night and led off for the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He finished 0-for-3 and struck out once. Lakeland has an off day today.

Tonight at 8:05 p.m. EST the All-Star Game begins, with Lincecum and Halladay getting the starting nods.

It will be nice to have four Tigers representing in the mid-season classic. I am curious to see if Verlander will be able to pitch given his start on Sunday. It should be a great game as always.
