Cubs Lose Mo-Jo

It’s like the Cubs lost their mo-jo.

That wasn’t supposed to happen with Aramis back, but they’ve played the last three games with a lack of self discipline and fundamentals.

As a result, they’re once again sitting below .500. Even the lowly Astros, for goodness sakes, have jumped Chicago in the standings.

At the very least, the Cubbies need a split against St. Louis.  A repeat of Friday’s effort, however, and they’ll be lucky to win a single game.

Rich Harden appears to be trying too hard at home. He’s 2-5 with an ERA near 8.00 at Wrigley. Either that or the oft injured pitcher is suffering physically yet again.

Another big game, coincidentally, falls in the lap of Ted Lilly.

Of course, he’s been huge all year. But, if Lilly falters there’s good reason to believe the Cubs gets swept by its arch rivals. Heaven help us if that’s the case.

During the remainder of the series I’m putting the Cubs’ over/under for runs scored at 10.

More importantly, someone in this lineup needs a big moment to spark the offense. I’m talking about a walk-off home run or bases clearing triple to win the game.

Just anything to help bring back the Cubs’ mo-jo from a season ago.

  • The Cubs (41-42) are in fifth place.
  • W: Carpenter (7-3) L: Harden (5-6)
  • Chicago drops to 4-4 on the 11-game homestand.
  • During this time D-Lee is 8-for-30 with 5 home runs and 15 RBI.
  • Aramis has hit safely in three straight games.
