Wright Suffers Cracked Bone in Hand

ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky reported on the discouraging development for Tennessee's offense:

"

Kendall Wright has a cracked bone in his right hand, but it won’t necessarily keep him from playing Sunday against the Giants and LP Field.

Wright suffered the injury when he slipped in practice Wednesday.

The team considers him day to day and will monitor the swelling and pain in the hand, which is something he can potentially play with.

"

Considering the team already lost receiver Justin Hunter for the season due to a lacerated spleen, the Titans could ill afford to lose another playmaker.

Wright was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft out of Baylor and has already made a significant impact in his short time in the pros. Last season, he had 94 receptions for 1,079 yards despite pedestrian quarterback play and a mediocre running game. He's added to that this season with just over 600 yards and five touchdowns.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller weighed in on Wright before the season began, suggesting he was drafted too low:

New Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt heaped high praise on Wright during training camp, per The Associated Press' Teresa M. Walker:

"

He can do a lot of different things. We’re going to try to put him in situations where we can explode that. He’s an explosive player, good hands, he’s got good vision. I really like what I've seen. [...] All the little things that I think it takes to be a good player, he’s shown. He’s doing that day in and day out, and that’s important.

"

With the upside Wright still has to explore, his fearlessness in navigating the middle of the field and his versatility, he will be a key cog in the Titans offense for years to come. But his health will go a long way in determining whether Zach Mettenberger is given a chance to succeed under center.
