Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: Strikeout Kings

Ryan LesterJul 9, 2009

Here are some reasonably available players to assist you in the strikeouts category.  Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs and WHIPs because if a pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good strikeout total, they’re already spoken for.

Barry Zito, San Francisco Giants

The Strikeout for Troops founder makes a return visit to the pool.  Zito picked up 13 Ks last week in 12.2 IP (9.2 K/9) while going 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP.  On the year he’s 5-8 with 79 Ks, a 4.43 ERA, and a 1.37 WHIP.  He’s owned in 25 percent of Yahoo!, 7.8 percent of ESPN, and 43 percent of CBS leagues.

Chad Gaudin, San Diego Padres

Gaudin is also a Strikeout for Troops guy.  He picked up 11 Ks last week in 11.2 IP (8.5 K/9) while going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP.  On the year he’s 4-7 with 85 Ks, a 5.03 ERA, and a 1.41 WHIP.  He’s owned in 19 percent of Yahoo!, 3.7 percent of ESPN, and 22 percent of CBS leagues.

Jorge de la Rosa, Colorado Rockies

His Ks were a little down this week as he had 11 in 14.1 IP (6.9), but his ERA (1.88) and WHIP (1.12) were great.  On the year he is 6-7 with 98 Ks, a 5.08 ERA, and a 1.43 WHIP.  He’s owned in 26 percent of Yahoo!, 6.4 percent of ESPN, and 34 percent of CBS leagues.

Homer Bailey, Cincinnati Reds

Bailey picked up 11 Ks in 13-1/3 IP (7.4 K/9) last week a 2.70 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP.  In four starts he’s 1-0 with 16 Ks, a 5.16 ERA, and a 1.37 WHIP.  He’s owned in 18 percent of Yahoo!, 1.3 percent of ESPN, and 28 percent of CBS leagues.

Doug Davis, Arizona Diamondbacks

Davis continues to get it done.  He was 1-0 last week with 11 Ks (7.4 K/9) with a 2.02 ERA, and a 1.73 WHIP.  On the year he’s 4-8 with 84 Ks, a 3.13 ERA, and a 1.40 WHIP.   He’s owned in 39 percent of Yahoo!, 11.4 percent of ESPN, and 53 percent of CBS leagues.
