UNDER 9.5 Seattle/Boston:
Good pitching matchup as the M’s go for the sweep at Fenway. Brandon Morrow is a converted closer who is suddenly pitching deeper into games, while Jon Lester remains one the top lefties in the game. Morrow (0-3, 5.14) was awful as a closer early in the season, but seems to have turned it around as a starter, at least lately. He’s going to throw a lot of pitches as evidenced by his high walk and strikeout ratio. Look for a nice effort again today and hopefully he can go at least 6 innings. Lester (7-6, 4.35) has been simply awesome since his tough April. He’s allowed 7 runs in his last 34 innings pitched, and is 3-1 in that span. He shut out the Orioles last Monday, walking none and striking out 8. With the American League East race as tight as it is, the Red Sox will lean heavily on Lester the rest of the way as they try to hold off the Yankees.

Kansas City -115 over Chicago White Sox:
The Royals look to win a series in the first time in a while today as they host the White Sox in the finale of a three game set. Brian Bannister (5-6, 3.93) takes on Clayton Richard (3-1, 4.48). Richard has struggled lately, he’s allowed 11 runs in his last 13 innnigs of work yet somehow hasn’t lost a game in that time frame. Chicago has been playing pretty well lately, so the offense has bailed him out a few times. Bannister (5-6, 3.93) has done a nice job this year after spending some time in the Minors to start the season. His last few efforts have been very good, allowing just 9 runs in 34 innings pitched. Look for Bannister to continue pitching well and for Richard’s poor performances to finally result in a loss.
