Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Updates on Recent and Potential Moves for Reds

Tyler BrookeJun 3, 2014

Liverpool didn't finish the Premier League season the way that they were hoping to, but now that the offseason has started for the Reds, the team has already been busy trying to make deals during the transfer window.

It looked like the Reds were ready to win the Premier League championship this season, but after a loss and a draw in two of their last three games, they ended up finishing in second behind Manchester City. Still, Liverpool had plenty of offensive firepower during the season, as they had the top two goalscorers in Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, with the two combining for an impressive 52 goals.

With the transfer window open, let's take a look at some of the most recent transfer news surrounding Liverpool.

Liverpool Sign Rickie Lambert

It is unclear what will happen with Luis Suarez this offseason, but in the event that he does leave Liverpool, the team will at least have another solid striker to work with.

According to Sky Sports, the Reds signed former Southamptonย striker Rickie Lambert for reportedly aroundย ยฃ4 million, and the 32-year-old appeared thrilled to be joining the team, saying:

"

I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come.

I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on.

"

In 31 starts during the Premier League season, Lambert recorded 13 goals to go along with 10 assists. He's a strong distributor who can drain goals from pretty far out, giving the Reds another dynamic option near the opponent's goal.

It will be interesting to see how the Reds use Lambert due to the current situation at striker, but given his skill set, he'll be able to be a solid contributor however Liverpool decide to use him.

Reds Want Stoke City to Pay Big for Oussama Assaidi

Stoke City were aggressively trying to snatch winger Oussama Assaidi away from the Reds on a permanent deal, but due to a couple of reasons, the potential move has been put on hold.

Liverpool came out and surprisingly demandedย ยฃ7 million from Stoke Cityย for the 25-year-old, according to John Percy from The Telegraph. The valuation seems way to high for Assaidi, but that's not the only reason that Stoke are holding back.

While on loan from Liverpool this past season, Assaidi impressed, but a knee injury ended his season early. According toย The Sentinel,ย that injury has put Stoke's pursuit of Assaidi on hold while he tries to find a way to get healthy and prove he can be a long-term option.

Assaidi looks like a promising player after recording five goals in 25 total appearances, but if he can't stay healthy, Stoke aren't going to want to bring him back on a long-term deal, especially if they have to payย ยฃ7 million like Liverpool are asking for.

Liverpool Make Offer for Alberto Moreno

Even though the Reds had an impressive offensive attack this past season, one of the big reasons they were unable to win the Premier League was due to their struggling defense, which allowed 50 goals during the season. Now, it looks like Liverpool are hunting for a strong defender in Sevilla's Alberto Moreno.

Andy Hunter fromย The Guardianย reported that Liverpool offered Sevillaย ยฃ16.2 million for the left-back. At just 21 years old, Moreno is a hot target for a number of teams as a potential long-term option at the position, but Liverpool are the first team to officially put an offer on the table.

If the Reds can get Moreno, they'll be getting a player who's a strong defender, especially when it comes to forcing turnovers. He can also set up scoring opportunities on crosses, and he can get into those situations with some solid dribbling.

Moreno's presence could be a big addition at left-back for Liverpool, and the move could be enough to put the Reds over the top as a legitimate Premier League contender once again next season.
