Futbol Chronicles: Manchester Could Sign Karim Benzema and David Villa

Bleacher ReportJun 27, 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson would do wonders for Manchester United if he manages to sign David Villa and Karim Benzema to Old Tradford.

It would signal the beginning of a new frontier for Manchester, and possibly eclipse any signing of which other clubs such as Real Madrid or Manchester City could make during the summer break.

David Villa is by far the best striker in Europe AND Karim Benzema is considered to be the hottest property in France as of late. A possible double signing of the two forwards to Old Tradford would propel Manchester to even greater heights for the foreseeable future.

Wayne Rooney has recaptured his scoring touch throughout the World Cup qualifiers, a fact that United supporters hope would translate to more success if Ferguson allows him to play at his center-forward position.

Cristiano Ronaldo would surely not be missed by Manchester and the club's supporters.

In fact if Berbatov can recapture the scoring touch that was missing last season along with Rooney going back to his predatory scoring instincts, the possible pairing of Benzema and Villa along with Rooney and Berba would create the most frightening forward tandem in England.

Perhaps a tandem of that sort could eclipse the amazing trio of Messi, Henri, and Eto at Barcelona. Even Florentino Perez of Madrid would have to admit that Villa, Benzema, Rooney, and Berbatov playing alongside each other would topple Kaka and Ronaldo respectively.

However, despite the available money at his disposal, it remains to be seen if Sir Alex Ferguson can bring both Benzema and Villa. Both forwards have made it clear of their intentions of staying with their respective clubs than playing elsewhere.

So far, Manchester have been frustrated at the lack of signings in the early summer. Chelsea of course would have more reasons to feel slighted by the fact that it seems no one would want to ply his trade at Stamford Bridge.

Old Tradford continues to be a theater of dreams, a place of wonder and awe for many footballers who played there in previous years. United supporters are pretty sure that many stars would follow, so it would be safe to say that Ronaldo himself would not be missed as much as one might expect.

Alex Ferguson knows he can only have some much time to bring in new blood, but whether Villa or Benzema come to Manchester or not, Alex knows his club will still be solid contenders for both Premiership and European honors.
