"The I Suck at Making Predictions" League is now Accepting Applications

Will OsgoodSep 12, 2007

Okay, okay so I don't exactly compare to Ms. Leah as far as predictions.  In fact, I'm as bad, if not worse than anyone that has ever predicted anything.  But, don't for a second, think that means I'm going to stop.  In fact, I'm just getting going.  I'm going to predict so many games, you won't know what hit you.  But first, here's a recap of last week's action.

Oregon 39, Michigan 7.  Usually when Michigan loses a player the caliber of Chad Henne, that's the worst loss the team has all season.  Well, it's looking like that's only the beginning.  I still think Michigan will rebound, but don't expect them to yelling "Strike" or "Spare" during the holiday season.

UCLA 27, BYU 17.  I was pretty close.  In fact, I had the margin of victory correct.  And i predicted that the UCLA offense would look like garbage.  Hey I may be improving to Chris Berman status.

LSU 990, VaTech 0.  I know that wasn't the actual score, but it sure felt like it.  Drop me from Berman status.  I'm in a league all of my own.  Too bad it's called "The You Suck at Making Picks" League.

Texas 34, TCU 13.  Gary Patterson:  "Here's the game plan team, we're going to score our only touchdown on an interception return in the First Half, lead 10-0 at half w/o moving the ball one iota and hold on and win 10-9 in Austin."  "Okay Coach", the whole team yells.  Apparently, Mack Brown got the message too, as did Colt McCoy who exploded in the 2nd Half.  The Horns hooked the Horned Frogs.  (Side note:  I got hooked on the Horned Frogs.  What does that say about me?)

Indianapolis Colts 41, New Orleans Saints 10.  Apparently my knowledge isn't good at any level.  Across the board I pick losers.  Why am I not good at Golf?  I'm always in the negative.

Didn't make any other NFL Picks, but here are some quick bits about last week's action.

Chargers:  LT rushes for only 25 yards on 17 carries and still manages to be the Player of the Game as he runs and throws for a TD.  Personally, I thought Antonio Gates was more valuable to the team on Sunday, but ESPN disagrees with me.  What's the little man supposed to do when up against the Giant.  Maybe I should fight them like David did Goliath.  Or I can just roll around like nothing ever happened.

Patriots caught taping Jets' coaches signals.  I'm taking odds on whether they were really taping them to steal their signals or if they wanted some film of hot sweaty dudes 'cuz that turns Bill Belichick on.  I'm still undecided.

Eli Manning plays well, but gets out-played and then hurt.  I guess when you're the other Manning, nothing goes right.  Also, is Tony Romo still with Carrie Underwood, 'cuz word on the street is, he's back to being a hot bachelor.

Picks for this week:

Nebraska 31, USC 30.  More hopeful than fact-based, but USC can score more times and lose.  I'm really hoping that happens in this one.

Tennessee 13, Florida 10.  Both teams are seriously lacking firepower.  So maybe this would be a high-scoring game.

UCLA 27, Utah 13.  In a perfect world, UCLA would play as well on offense as they did 2 weeks ago and defense like last week against BYU.  Of course, we don't live in a perfect world, so look for another ugly offensive outing.  The only reason UCLA stops Utah, is because they are seriously lacking firepower.

Arizona State 38, San Diego State 24.  ASU never plays well defensively and that's single-handedly the reason this one is even remotely close.

NFL:

New Orleans Saints 27, TB Bucs 14.  Saints want some revenge (lost last two on the road against teams whose main defense is the "Tampa 2").  Look for the Black and Gold to finally get back on track.

SD Chargers 27, NE Patriots 24.  Now here's a team truly looking for revenge.  So is LT, of course it's well documented the incident that happened at midfield after the playoff loss and subsequent media comments.  Look for LT to rebound from a tough running game last week to tear up the "class-less" Patriots.

Wow, that article went quick.  Well, enjoy the weekend of football to come.  And Go Cubs!
