UNDER 8.5 Cleveland/Pittsburgh:
2008 American League Cy Young winner Cliff Lee (4-6, 2.94) is pitching much better than his win loss record would indicate. He’s had a lot of games blown by his bullpen, which is the worst by far in the majors. Last Friday, Lee left a game at Wrigley with a 7-0 lead in the 7th inning. The bullpen proceeded to turn it into a 8-7 Indians loss. Lee has been terrific, allowing 8 runs in his last 30 innings pitched. He just has to know that he’ll have to pitch deeper into games if he expects to win. We expect a great effort tonight. Pirates starter Ross Ohlendorf (6-6, 4.94) has had a nice season for the Bucs. He has been inconsistent, but his home record and ERA is much stronger than his road numbers. Ohlendorf came to Pittsburgh from the Yankees, where he was more used out of the bullpen. He’s been a starter here in Pittsburgh and hopes to become a rotation fixture for years to come. He is 0-1 in his career vs. the Indians.

OVER 10 Philadelphia/Tampa Bay:
Game 3 of the World Series rematch tonight at the Trop, with each team taking a game so far. Should be a shootout in this one with two struggling pitchers on the mound. Antonio Bastardo (2-2, 5.21) goes for the Phillies, and he’s been awful in his last few starts after starting his career on fire. He’s allowed 9 runs in his last 8 innings pitched, losing both games. More telling to us, was that those two starts were in interleague play, as opposed to his allowing 3 runs in 11 innings against his 2 NL opponents prior to that. Bastardo wasn’t supposed to be counted on this soon for the Phils, but an injury to starter Brett Myers prompted the callup. Expect big things from him in the future, but not just yet. Tampa counters with big righty Andy Sonnanstine (5-7, 6.60). His record basically tells his story, he’s inconsistent at best, but is capable of winning a few games. He’s allowed 7 runs in 13 interleague innings, which again, is par for the course with his career numbers. Once the Rays get Scott Kazmir back from the DL, Sonnanstine could be looking at a demotion to the bullpen. Expect a high scoring game tonight as the 2008 World Series rematch wraps up this three game series.
