South Carolina-Georgia: Dissapointment Between the Hedges

   It was the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Caroline Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier, the ol' ball coach, has had great success in his days in the SEC. Spurrier had great success against UGA in his glory days at Florida with his Fun N' Gun offense that gave Florida so much success.

   "We missed too many opportunities to make plays that could have made the difference in the game," said Georgia coach Mark Richt. "In my mind, it was not a lack of effort at all. It was just a lack of ability to make plays when they were there. We’re in this thing together. We’re not pointing fingers at anybody. We had opportunities to make plays and we did not, and they did enough to win. We’ve got to regroup and make sure we get better because we’ve got to get better to win in this league."

  This game was a game highly-dominated by 2 legs. One of those legs was Brandon Coutu's. Coutu had field goals of 33, 44, 39 and 34 yards, marking the first time in his career that he has converted four times in a game. Coutu accounted for every single Georgia point. The other dominant leg was South Carolina's Ryan Succop. Succop was equally effective, hitting from 41, 35 and 34 yards. In defensive struggles like this one, a team's kicker can make or break a game.

   There was only one touchdown in this game, offensive and defensive, just one. It was scored in the first quarter by South Caroina RB Cory Boyd. Boyd raced in from nine yards out and Succop added the extra point for the 7-0 lead. From then on, the only scoring came off the feet of Coutu and Succop.

   Despite the loss, Georgia got a career-high effort from Knowshon Moreno. Coutu and Moreno were the only 2 brightspots for the Bulldogs.

   Georgia dropped from #11 to number 23 in the AP poll while South Carolina catapulted from #33 and broke into the top 25 to #17.

   Next week, South Carolina hosts South Carolina State while Georgia entertains Western Carolina in what should be 2 very easy home wins.
