TNA: What Is Driving It, and What Is Holding It Back

John MinihanJun 21, 2009

It's about 2 hours before the 7th anniversary of TNA Slammyversary and for the past hour I have been on Youtube reliving TNA's greatest and most extreme moments, Which brings me to wonder, where did it all go? Don't get me wrong I still like TNA and prefer it over WWE but recently it has been in a brain dead slump, here's why.

The Continual Buildup of Older superstars: I know this is something a lot of people have talked about, but giving the title to Foley? Personally I think Foley is awesome, but he is not the World Champ TNA Needs, Which brings me to another thing, why are the older guys the only people considered good enough for the title? If Styles and Eric Young were given enough of a chance they could carry TNA on their back. The main thing TNA should use the older superstars for is feudingwith the younger ones, When MEM was formed if was all about the older guys  feudingwith the next generation of TNAand it was unpredictable and enjoyable to watch, both sides get their time to shine and the  feud elevated the younger superstars.

Keeping the TNA World Title Fresh: With TNA in chaos over the Jarret/Foley Feud Mick came up with the idea that the World Title should only be defended 4 times a year. Personally I think this is a pretty good idea, although I would up it to 6 times a year which would prevent the title from becoming something that is just thrown around from superstar to superstar. Also, this would make the X-Division stronger as it would be pushed into the main event spotlight.

More believable story lines: This is one thing that is completely holding TNA back, whoever writes some of this crap should fired and replaced by people with fresher ideas. TNA has done some pretty stupid things recently, like when Joe came out a couple of Impact's ago and said he was going to "Kill Kurt Angle" the TNA writing staff needs to come up with better ways to showcase their talent. Another Dumb Thing is the continual sideline of Eric Young, this guy is a very talented wrestler who should not take a back seat to someone like Mick Foley, I'm not saying he should be the world champ but he needs to be out there in matches against guys like Foley and Kurt because wrestling with these legends would give him a big boost to the main event status he needs to see in the future.
