Alexander Rusev and Lana Will Be Most Effective Manager-Talent Duo in Years

The WWE's recent relationship with dominant, towering big men has continued in early 2014. In recent years, we have seen the likes of Ryback and Brodus Clay both receive heavy pushes—although at different levels, admittedly.

However, those experiments ultimately failed—especially the one involving Ryback, in which he was quickly elevated to main event status and ultimately suffered as a result.

But where the likes of Ryback and Brodus Clay have failed in the past, there could be genuine scope for the newest addition to the WWE roster to succeed.

His debut had been teased and promised for weeks on end, and after much speculation, Alexander Rusev has burst onto the scene in some style. Whilst the likes of Ryback and Clay were squashing people with little or no experience on the WWE main event circuit, Rusev has knocked off a couple of notable people.

However, what separates the big Bulgarian from Ryback, Clay and the rest of the new blood that often emerges from the likes of NXT and Florida Championship Wrestling is a long-legged, blonde Russian named Lana.

As a rule, female managers are incredibly rare on modern-day WWE rosters. Sure, Vickie Guerrero was one of note, but she ended up morphing into a figure of authority. The refreshing aura of Lana will not only reignite passion and interest in female managers but also do wonders for Rusev.

Their relationship is a simple yet marvelous one. Lana does all the talking for her esteemed client in a way similar to Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. That enables Rusev to create a persona of mystery: a man who does not speak but simply destroys.

His performances so far have been incredibly impressive, it has to be said. Rusev is enormous and has a unique look to him in that no-shoes, old-school type of wrestling persona. However, whilst he is comfortable picking people up and tossing them around the ring, he is also quite agile and mobile.

You think back to some of the classic male-female partnerships in WWE. Miss Elizabeth and Randy Savage, for example. Chyna and an arrogant, brash Hunter Hearst-Helmsley. They all had an impressive look to them and made for some dynamic storylines.

Whilst it is ridiculous to compare Rusev and Lana to the likes of Miss Elizabeth and Savage, they have certainly revived a bit of a dying breed in terms of male-female partnerships.

Rusev has stacks of talent in his favor, and Lana seems to have a special gift with the mic in hand. The unique twists are their European charisma and the almost-broken English she speaks.

With the glamorous Lana by his side, Alexander Rusev will continue to flourish in the WWE. And the duo will arguably go on to become one of the most successful pairings in years and years.
