WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Stars Who Will Break Out at PPV Event

Aaron BowerApr 17, 2014

The 2014 edition of Extreme Rules promises to be an exciting and dramatic pay-per-view on many fronts.

For example, there's the continuation of Daniel Bryan's long-promised emergence as the face of WWE. Will he be able to defend his belt successfully against Kane?

And of course, there is the prospect of John Cena and Bray Wyatt doing battle once again—this time inside a steel cage, no less.

As well as that, there are a clutch of stars who will surely break out at this event—stars who are either new to the roster or have been somewhat held down over the last few months.

With that in mind, let's take a look at five stars who could well break out at WWE Extreme Rules.

Tamina Snuka

1 of 5

We start with a rare inclusion on lists such as this—a Divas star.

The division has been woeful over the last few months, with the same clutch of stars constantly challenging AJ Lee—and failing.

However, it almost feels like the tide has turned a touch in the women's division. It has a new champion in Paige, and she seems like a natural to professional wrestling.

Her challenger at the show will be Tamina Snuka. It is often forgotten that she broke into the main roster with The Usos—who are currently top of the tree in the tag division.

Technically, she is one of the best Divas currently in WWE, so you anticipate that she will put on a strong showing at Extreme Rules.

Bad News Barrett

Weeks and weeks of average promos felt like they were never going to end at one point. Bad News Barrett wasn't getting into the ring, and things just felt like they were going nowhere.

However, in the last couple of weeks we've begun to see signs of improvement in Bad News Barrett. For starters, he is actually getting in the ring and wrestling.

And he's actually winning. Two victories in as many weeks on Raw represent rapid progress, so hopefully he will feature on the card at Extreme Rules.

That could still be in a championship match against Big E, provided he wins the tournament to determine who gets that right.

Even if it is in another match, though, we are sure to see Bad News Barrett continue to impress at Extreme Rules.

Alexander Rusev

3 of 5

The WWE have been holding him back for long enough—but Alexander Rusev is finally terrorizing the WWE.

With the ravishing Lana by his side, the two look like a perfect match in terms of young, fresh talent. And whilst Lana does most—well, all—of the talking for the big Bulgarian, he is busy causing carnage inside the ring.

His wins so far have been relatively comfortable, which indicates just how much of a push he is likely to get. We will see that development continue at Extreme Rules?

If the progress of Ryback's first few months in the company are anything to go by, then we can assume that Rusev will be on show at Extreme Rules.

It may be another squash victory or something more substantial. However, there is little doubt that Alexander Rusev will break out at this upcoming pay-per-view.

Randy Orton

4 of 5

It is bizarre to even contemplate Randy Orton as a breakout star of Extreme Rules, in all fairness.

After all, he was the champion heading into the last pay-per-view, but things have changed significantly since then.

However, Orton won't be fighting for the championship at Extreme Rules—instead, he will be part of the newly reformed Evolution stable.

Evolution will take on The Shield in a six-man tag match, but expect Orton to be the shining light of the heel trio at Extreme Rules.

Orton is still up there with the very best when it comes to working as a heel—if we can see the sadistic, demonic character that is often attributed to Orton, then we are in for a real treat.

There will arguably be one man from each side of this match who breaks out at Extreme Rules. Orton will be Evolution's guy.

Dean Ambrose

5 of 5

Whilst Randy Orton will be the guy who breaks out for Evolution at Extreme Rules, it will be The Shield's own demonic, twisted member who does exactly the same for them.

At times during The Shield's run in the WWE, Dean Ambrose has been cast into the background. After all, when they arrived on the scene, all the talk focused on Seth Rollins.

Then the events of Survivor Series and Royal Rumble left everyone salivating over Roman Reigns and the big future promised to him.

In truth, the WWE has a huge star on its hands with Ambrose. When he has been allowed to come to the fore—like when he left Reigns and Rollins to be beaten up—he has excelled.

There is little doubt over his talent inside the ring. If he is allowed to perform in a lengthy match at Extreme Rules, people will finally be talking about Dean Ambrose.
