Billy Gunn Injury: Updates on WWE Star's Hemoptysis and Return

In a match that ended more abruptly than any other in the entire WrestleMania 30 event, one member of the New Age Outlaws will be feeling the effects from a demoralizing loss to The Shield for a while after the pay-per-view event.

Billy Gunn suffered a severe injury at the conclusion of the match, as WWE reports:

The injury to Gunn was hemoptysis, which came during a double-Triple Powerbomb delivered by The Shield to clinch the quick match.

WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann shared the diagnosis and more details on the injury, per the WWE:

At the very end of the match, Billy sustained a powerbomb maneuver. After that maneuver, he started to develop hemoptysis, which is the medical term for coughing up blood.

We brought him back and evaluated him immediately, checked his oxygen, his blood pressure … everything was stable. We got some X-rays of his chest, which did not show any evidence of a collapsed lung, so our diagnosis right now is that he most likely ruptured a small blood vessel that caused bleeding to the airways and, subsequently, coughing  up blood.

We’re going to monitor him closely for the rest of the night, and we’ll have any additional updates as they’re available.

Gunn is a 50-year-old Superstar who has been involved in the WWE ranks for decades. Whether he was Mr. Ass or a member of the six-time WWE Tag Team Champion New Age Outlaws with his partner Road Dogg, Gunn has been a professional wrestler for nearly half of his life.

Without Gunn in the ring, the New Age Outlaws could be taking a hiatus as well. After losing in disappointing fashion on WWE's biggest stage, it might be the perfect time to take a break.

The injury might also mean the end of Gunn's career. At the age of 50, Gunn's hemoptysis makes the future of his career blurry, especially following the performance during WrestleMania.
