WWE WrestleMania 30: Power Ranking Most Likely Swerves at Marquee PPV

Mike ChiariApr 4, 2014

WrestleMania has played host to some of the most shocking swerves in the history of professional wrestling, and the stage is set for a few more to take place on Sunday in New Orleans.

It will be difficult to top "Stone Cold" Steve Austin turning heel at WrestleMania X-Seven, Hulk Hogan beating Yokozuna for the WWE Championship to close WrestleMania IX or the Austin and Bret "Hitman" Hart double turn at WrestleMania 13. With that said, though, WrestleMania XXX is ripe for some shocking moments.

Here is a closer look at some of the biggest swerves that could come to fruition at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday night.

1. Daniel Bryan and Triple H Both Get Added to Main Event

When Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H was first announced, it came with the stipulation that Bryan would be added to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match in the event of a victory. That seemed to make it obvious that Bryan would win, but Triple H soon changed the stipulation, and now the winner will take part in the main event regardless of whether it's Bryan or Triple H.

It's impossible to envision the main event without Bryan, so there is definitely a possibility that he wins. At the same time, there seems to be some concern among fans that Triple H is going to "bury" Bryan at WrestleMania. The Game is well aware that people feel that way about him, and he played up to it with a brilliant video package on Raw.

Triple H even embraced the perception on Twitter by replying to a fan who asked him where he keeps his shovel, in reference to the burial reputation:

There is no question that Triple H has beaten his fair share of stars over the years, but Triple H also happens to be one of the biggest stars in wrestling history in his own right. Bryan is at a totally different level in terms of popularity than anyone in recent memory, so the fear of a "burial" is misplaced.

Ultimately, the most logical conclusion to this match is a non-finish that results in both Bryan and Triple H vying for the world title. Since they're both heavily invested in the main event angle, there is no reason why they shouldn't be in the main event together.

There are plenty of ways to accomplish this, including a double disqualification, double count-out or double pin of some kind. Since both Randy Orton and Batista have complained about having to compete in a Triple Threat, expect them to interfere.

WrestleMania XXX host Hulk Hogan will then decree that the main event will be a Fatal 4-Way. A precedent was set when The Rock made executive decisions as host at WrestleMania XXVII, and Hogan could easily and believably do the same.

2. Triple H Joins Forces with Randy Orton and Batista

Triple H, Orton and Batista have plenty of history together. Some of it is good, including their time together as part of Evolution. At the same time, some of it is bad—Triple H ultimately turned on both of them. The build toward WrestleMania suggests that WWE will focus on the bad blood between the three men, but it isn't a stretch to think that an alliance could be forged.

As previously mentioned, it is a very real possibility that the main event at WrestleMania XXX will be a Fatal 4-Way rather than the advertised Triple Threat. As seen in this photo courtesy of WWE's Instagram account, Bryan would be tasked with facing three of the biggest stars in WWE history at once:

Even though Triple H, Orton and Batista have had their differences, they also happen to have a common enemy in the form of Bryan. The three former Evolution members all look the part and are considered prototypical WWE Superstars, while Bryan is different. Triple H, Orton and Batista are all threatened by that, so they could very well put their issues aside in an effort to eradicate the Yes Movement.

Perhaps the biggest clue regarding something like that happening was Triple H's commentary on the go-home edition of Raw. Even though Orton and Batista are prospective opponents, he implored them to "unleash The Viper" and "unleash The Animal" in reference to their vicious and dangerous personas.

Triple H clearly wants them to be at their very best for a reason, and that reason is to prevent Bryan from becoming WWE World Heavyweight champion.

3. The Shield Aids Daniel Bryan in Main Event

It is no secret that nobody deserves to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship more than Bryan. If Triple H, Orton and Batista decide to gang up on him, though, there is no way that he can believably win the straps on his own. Bryan is the ultimate underdog, and he has overcome a great deal of adversity, but even top stars can use a helping hand every once in a while.

Bryan hasn't exactly been in an alliance with anyone as of late, which was crystal clear a few weeks ago when Triple H had him handcuffed and proceeded to beat him mercilessly. That doesn't mean that something won't emerge on Sunday, though. Triple H has continued to hold Bryan down, which could prove irksome to fellow Superstars.

Triple H continued to dismiss Bryan's chances at WrestleMania in a recent interview with Rob Leigh of Mirror.

"When he's laying at my feet, gasping for air because I've just beaten the tar out of him, we'll see," Triple H said. "He can say a lot of things...it doesn't really change the fact that I'm going to destroy the Yes Movement."

Triple H's character is supremely confident, likely because he has a pair of aces up his sleeve in the form of Orton and Batista. There is only one group of Superstars that can save Bryan if Triple H's potential dastardly plan comes to fruition, and that is The Shield.

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins seemed destined for a breakup not too long ago, but they have done a 180 degree turn in recent weeks. The Shield's bond is stronger than ever, and the trio have exhibited face tendencies as well.

The Hounds of Justice have been about dishing out justice ever since their debut, and there is no bigger injustice than preventing Bryan from grabbing the brass ring. The Shield will recognize that and even the odds in WrestleMania's main event.

Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins are already feuding with The Authority on a smaller level, as they will face Kane and the New Age Outlaws at WrestleMania, so progressing to Triple H would be natural and logical. WWE abruptly went away from the breakup angle for a reason, and it had to be because there are bigger and better plans for The Shield.

Not only would a Shield interference allow Bryan to win the title, but it could set up a feud between The Shield and the team of Triple H, Orton and Batista moving forward. All of that would be best for business, and it would make for one of the most memorable endings in WrestleMania history.
