Daniel Bryan Cannot Be WWE World Heavyweight Champion Under Triple H

Tom ClarkApr 3, 2014

Daniel Bryan is approaching what could be the biggest night of his professional wrestling career when he faces Triple H at WWE WrestleMania 30.  And if Bryan wins that match, he will be added to the main event between Batista and Randy Orton for the WWE World Championship.

But even if Daniel defeats Hunter and then goes on to finally become the new WWE World champion, the fact is that it won't be over for him yet.  The reason for that is because if Daniel is to have a legitimate title run, Triple H cannot be in the equation.

The angle involving Bryan and Triple H began of course back in 2013 at the SummerSlam pay-per-view. It was on that night when Daniel pinned John Cena for the WWE Championship and was celebrating his win that Randy Orton came down the ramp.

Orton was carrying his Money in the Bank briefcase, in an obvious overture toward Daniel's newly won title.  But before he could touch Bryan, special guest referee Triple H suddenly delivered the Pedigree to Daniel.  The move put him down and allowed Randy to get the pin.

Since that night, it has been Daniel Bryan versus The Authority.  Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have thrown every imaginable obstacle into Bryan's path and tormented him to the point of breaking him.  And it was all done in an effort to keep Bryan from the industry's top championship.

The Authority used a referee's fast count, it used other Superstars like Shawn Michaels, The Shield and The New Age Outlaws and it even used an unwilling Big Show against Daniel Bryan.  WWE's ruling class had decided from day one that Bryan had to be kept away from the championship.  He could not be allowed to win it, and his career could not be allowed to thrive or even grow because of it.

Triple H had made it his mission in life to stop Daniel Bryan, and he has done just that for nearly eight months.

But Daniel Bryan's character would not be denied.  The Authority had underestimated his heart and spirit; it did not count on his resiliency or his desire to be the WWE World champion.  Now, Bryan's focus is more razor sharp than it has been since SummerSlam, as he finally has The Game in a one-on-one match.

And if he wins, then gets the pin in the main event, Bryan will have finally achieved his dreams and earned the two biggest wins of his entire career.  He will have vanquished WWE's chief operating officer, who is also the biggest heel in the company, which means he would have done what very few have ever been able to do—beat Triple H at his own game.  And he would have done it on the WrestleMania stage.

The real issue comes the night after WrestleMania 30, when Bryan arrives on Monday Night Raw as the conquering hero.  Because if that happens, then Triple H simply cannot be in the picture any longer.

Daniel Bryan and a fan

The biggest reason for this is the most obvious.  If The Game spent eight months keeping Daniel Bryan from the WWE Championship and tried to destroy him in the process, then why would he simply allow Daniel to keep the belts after WrestleMania?

The truth is that as WWE's top corporate heel, Triple H can do whatever he wants to Daniel. The fact that Bryan won the championship at WrestleMania would not stop Hunter from going after him once again. And the fact that Daniel pinned The Game on his way to the top would only be more fuel on the fire.

To imagine Triple H would just allow Daniel to be WWE World Heavyweight champion with no response, no action taken whatsoever, seems virtually impossible.  And it also seems incredibly unrealistic.  Again, Hunter has made it his mission to keep Bryan from the top of WWE. Why would he stop now?

So if Daniel is to truly have a WWE World title run, then Hunter cannot be involved.  That means he must move on to someone else and become completely distracted with another Superstar.  Or, perhaps Hunter will step back from WWE programming on a full-time basis. Maybe he will not be seen on TV for a while so Daniel can fully establish himself as WWE World champion.

Either way, if Daniel will truly be used in the role as a top guy, then he needs time to get on solid ground. A good protagonist is only as good as his best antagonist, of course, so at some point Triple H would likely get involved in Daniel's business once again.

But until that time, there should be some distance between Triple H and the newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight champion.  And truth be told, the fans could very well want to see the heat between the two men finally come to an end.  If it doesn't, then the weight of it could end up hanging over Daniel Bryan's head as he attempts to establish himself as the top titleholder in the industry.
