Sting Debuting at WrestleMania?
The biggest rumor circulating as WrestleMania 30 approaches is the possibility that WCW and TNA legend Sting may have signed with the company and could make his WWE debut at Sunday’s PPV in New Orleans.
According to a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via WrestleZone), the rumors and speculation about Sting’s possible appearance have some credibility:
"The latest regarding Sting's debut and future work with WWE is that he'll only be wrestling one singles match with the company. Of course, the expectation is that if he's only working one match, it will be against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 next year. However, it's unknown whether or not WWE will decide to reveal those plans on WrestleMania Sunday or the following night on RAW.
It is worth noting that Sting is in New Orleans during WrestleMania weekend. It was announced that he'll be doing a special, and very rare appearance at the annual WrestleCon convention taking place that weekend in New Orleans.
"
Regardless of how you feel about the war between WCW and WWE, Sting is still one of the greatest wrestlers to ever grace the sport. Not only does he deserve a WrestleMania match, but he also deserves his one and only bout in this company to be against The Undertaker.
If there was ever a time to get both of these veteran wrestlers in the same ring, it would be as soon as possible. WWE understands the magnitude of a potential Sting vs. Undertaker match, and comprehends that building to the bout for an entire year would maximize its potential.
If we see Sting at WrestleMania 30—or even the next night on Raw—it will be to start the build to next year’s PPV where Sting puts his career on the line to earn a shot at the streak. While both men are older, the storytelling in this match would be legendary.
Rob Van Dam Returning for the Andre the Giant Battle Royal?
There are three spots still open in the 30-man Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and, according to Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc.com, former WWE champion Rob Van Dam will reportedly fill one of those spots.
Despite being buried by Triple H on the go-home edition of Raw, Van Dam is still known as one of the most exciting wrestlers on earth and a fan favorite. Any time the company can add talent and depth to its roster, it will do so.
RVD will not win the Battle Royal, though.
There is still a large group of fans that loves Van Dam and believes he could be around the world title scene. He is at the point in his career where he is better off making other guys look great.
Whether it’s a singles feud with Cesaro or possibly even a heel turn in order to side with Paul Heyman once Brock Lesnar leaves, the WWE will be better off with RVD in the fold moving forward.
Plus, the Battle Royal will be much more fun to watch if Van Dam returns.
WWE Planning Blockbuster Appearances?
It is no secret that Vince McMahon and the entire WWE love to put on the biggest show possible for WrestleMania and make it a real spectacle, and the company may have a few big secrets planned for the fans.
According to F4WOnline.com, via WrestlingInc.com, “WWE has reportedly contacted several major names for cameo appearances at WrestleMania 30, including ‘every megadraw’ of the last three decades that is still alive.”
With Hulk Hogan already involved, the WWE Universe immediately started rattling off names that could be involved with the show. No bigger star has been talked about than "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and the Texas Rattlesnake has confirmed that he will be in New Orleans for the big event, according to WWE.com.
There was always a hope that the WWE could work out a match between CM Punk and Austin, but recent developments indicate that those plans are not realistic. Wrestling fans should expect Austin at ringside drinking a beer at the very most.
As for what other secrets and surprises WWE has planned, we’ll just have to wait and see.
