WWE WrestleMania 30: Breaking Down Card's Biggest Matches and Latest Rumors

Mike ChiariApr 6, 2014

Although fans were seemingly apprehensive about the potential of WrestleMania XXX just a few weeks ago, it's impossible to not be excited about the biggest spectacle in professional wrestling after Monday's edition of Raw.

Huge matches such as Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H, The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar and John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt were built extremely well, and although the undercard leaves something to be desired, the pieces are in place for this to be an excellent show.

Here is a closer look at some of the biggest bouts on the WrestleMania XXX card, predictions for those matches and rumors that could come to a head in New Orleans.

Big Night for Daniel Bryan?

All the pieces are in place for Daniel Bryan to establish himself as "the guy" in WWE at WrestleMania XXX. Not only has he been placed in a high-profile match against Triple H, but he also has an opportunity to compete for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton and Batista should he come out on top in the Triple H match.

As seen in this photo, courtesy of WWE's Instagram account, Bryan has his work cut out for him, as he will have to go through three of the biggest stars in WWE history:

Although very little information has been leaked regarding WWE's plans for Bryan at WrestleMania, the betting odds tell an interesting story. According to Oddschecker.com, Bryan is a significant favorite in his match against Triple H across several betting outlets, with the most common line being 1-33.

In addition to that, Bryan is also favored to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship with odds ranging from 1-18 to 1-6, per Oddschecker.com. While these odds don't necessarily tell the entire story, they suggest that anyone other than Bryan winning the straps at WrestleMania would be considered a major swerve and upset.

From a booking perspective, Bryan obviously makes the most sense to stand tall at the end of the show. He is WWE's most popular star right now, and the creative team has done a great job of dangling the carrot in front of him. He held the WWE Championship for about a minute at SummerSlam and did it again for less than a day after beating Orton at Night of Champions.

There is an outside chance that the angle could be strung out even more by having someone like Batista win at WrestleMania, but Bryan deserves his WrestleMania moment. It wouldn't have the same meaning if he won the titles at Extreme Rules or some other pay-per-view, and WWE needs to strike while the iron is hot at WrestleMania.

Undertaker's WrestleMania XXXI Opponent Set?

With an unprecedented undefeated streak of 21-0 at WrestleMania, The Undertaker is one of WWE's biggest draws every year. Things are no different with WrestleMania XXX approaching, as The Deadman will take on Brock Lesnar. As two of the best big-man workers in the history of the business, this has all the makings of a classic match on the biggest possible stage.

As good as the match is going to be, there isn't much question about who will win. It is very likely that the streak will never end, but even if it does, it wouldn't end on account of another part-time wrestler like Lesnar. Since Lesnar's credibility is already well established, there simply isn't any reason to give him a win over Taker at 'Mania.

If it wasn't already obvious that The Undertaker is going to win this match, rumors regarding his potential WrestleMania XXXI match may cement it. According to WrestleZone.com via The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the expectation is that Sting will sign with WWE and face The Undertaker at next year's edition of WrestleMania.

It is unclear when he will make his debut, but WrestleMania XXX and the ensuing Raw were both mentioned as possibilities. Even though Sting isn't the same wrestler he once was now that he is 55 years of age, there are plenty of fans who would love to see Sting take on The Undertaker.

A confrontation between them would be one of the greatest moments in WWE history, and that will be in the back of many wrestling fans' minds during Taker's match against Lesnar.

The Shield's Next Step

For quite some time, it appeared as though WWE was building toward a Shield breakup that would culminate in a triple threat at WrestleMania XXX. The writers put the brakes on that a few weeks ago, though, and The Shield is now a face stable. While the slight character change has been intriguing, it has also hurt the WrestleMania card.

Instead of the triple threat, The Shield will face the team of Kane and The New Age Outlaws. The Shield has been feuding with Kane in recent weeks, and while The Shield tends to put on great matches no matter what, this is somewhat of a letdown for Shield fans.

Despite the apparent change of heart when it comes to breaking up The Shield, WrestlingInc.com via F4WOnline is reporting that the plan is still for The Shield to ultimately break up with Roman Reigns going off on his own as a face.

The report doesn't pinpoint a specific time when the breakup will occur, so while it could take place at WrestleMania, that is far from a guarantee. There isn't much reason for Kane and The New Age Outlaws to win this match since they're at the tail end of their careers, but the looming possibility of a Shield breakup allows some doubt to creep in.

Since WWE went to such great lengths to keep The Shield together, though, expect the breakup to be put on hold even longer and for The Shield to win once again on the big stage.
