OVER 9 Minnesota/Pittsburgh:
Interesting interleague series begins tonight in the Metrodomw as the Twins host the Pirates. Minnesota is 3 games behind Detroit in the AL Central, while the Pirates are having a nice year, sitting only 4 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central. Paul Maholm (4-2, 3.61) goes to the mound for the Buccos, and he is currently involved in a strange trend of pitching well every other start. He threw seven shutout innings in his last effort, but gave up 4 runs in 5 innings the start before that. The trend continues all the way back to 6 starts ago, so we’re going to assume tonight he’s due to give up some runs. Minnesota lefty Glen Perkins (1-3, 5.36) returns to the roatation tonight after spending some time at Triple A. His last start, May 18 in New York, he was torched for 6 runs in just 2/3 of an inning. He wasn’t much better before that as his ERA indicates. Perkins hopes to make an impact upon his retrun to Twins rotation.

Seattle -145 over San Diego:
Try to find me a pitcher hotter than Felix Hernandez right now, I dare you. King Felix has been unreal of late, allowing just 3 earned runs in his 28 2/3 innings pitched while striking out 28 and walking just 7. He’s simply been on a roll for the Mariners, who travel to San Diego to begin a 3 game set against the Padres. Seattle needs to get back on track after being swept over the weekend in Colorado. Kevin Correia has done a nice job for the Pads since being acquired from up the coast in San Francisco last season. He beat the first place Dodgers last Wednesday, allowing i run in 6 innings of work. He’s 3-4 on the season with a respectable 4.80 ERA in 12 starts. We think Seattle bounces back tonight as King Felix is just too tough for an overmatched Padre offense.
