Mike Swick Wants To Fight The Best: Who's Next
Mike Swick is off an awesome win at UFC 99 against Ben Saunders. Swick immediately states he wants to fight one of the big dogs so he can move up. He talks about working to hard to risk it on someone that's name is not high on the roster.
I feel Swick's pain. I too believe he should have been given more chances, but who am I. I didn't gross $200 plus million last year like the UFC so they no something here.
Swick makes comments as to fighting for a title or even fighting Matt Hughes. Matt is a great fighter in his own right, but will fighting Matt raise his status any higher? Matt's stand up skills wouldn't press Swick in my opinion. So would this be the right fight for either fighter? I can't say that this fight is on my list of must sees.
I am about ready to see Jon Fitch back in the octogan and if Swick is anywhere near a title fight I believe Swick vs. Fitch would be a great challenge for both fighters. Fitch is a force to be reckoned with and with his heart and ground skills Swick would have to be very crafty to get a win with him.
Can Swick beat some of the top tier fighters? Out of four of them I could see him winning half of his fights for sure. Is he a threat in this division? Anyone with hand speed and knock out power is a huge threat in this division. I could see him wearing the belt given the right fights.
I think a good fan fight would be Swick vs. Fitch and on the same card Hughes vs. Koscheck. I also believe if Alves takes the title, Hughes will get his rematch. I base this on the last fight. When it was stopped he didn't grab his head or fall back and act dazed. He immediately grabbed his knee. Alves would have still beat him in a decision in that fight either way I believe, but I think Hughes thinks he has a better chance with a knee that is well and injury free.
He actually may be right. Remember Matt Hughes is the master at getting people on the ground. If you can't shoot fast enough and your game to get people on the ground....well your game is over. It's like Faber vs. Brown. When your hand is broke it's pretty much over in most cases.
Let me her your thoughts. Tell me what fights you would like to see.
