Luke Harper and Erick Rowan Are the Usos' Ideal Tag Team Title Challengers

Ryan DilbertMar 5, 2014

The Usos need Luke Harper and Erick Rowan to come charging at their newly won WWE Tag Team Championships—the warrior brothers pushed to their best by a pair of barbarians.

With the division marked by impending breakups, The Wyatt Family's Harper and Rowan are WWE's most powerful team. The quality of their previous battles with The Usos and their ability to be convincing threats to the champs make them ideal contenders.

Otherwise, WWE may have to go with inferior options as it did on Tuesday's Main Event when The Usos took on Los Matadores.

The Wyatt Family's leader is en route to a clash with John Cena at WrestleMania XXX. Harper and Rowan should be pulling more than moral support duty for Bray Wyatt at that event. Their history with The Usos and their destruction-filled resume beg to have them challenge for the tag titles.

A look at the rest of the tag teams reveals that Harper and Rowan are the most worthy duo in a division in transition.

Best Option Available

Harper and Rowan will be the beneficiaries of other teams' conflicts.

The Real Americans hovered around the tag team title scene but are now busy squabbling with each other. On Monday's Raw, Cesaro interrupted Jack Swagger's match against Big E, getting him disqualified.

The two partners jawed at each other before Zeb Colter was able to cool them down.

Tension like that doesn't just go away. Even working with Dr. Shelby couldn't keep Kane and Daniel Bryan's issues quelled forever.

Count on Cesaro breaking away from Colter and Swagger and WWE giving in to the increasingly loud positive responses he's getting from the crowd.

The Shield won't be around long, either. Seth Rollins left his partners to fight alone against The Wyatt Family on Monday's Raw.

Their unity has turned to infighting in recent months. As angry as Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns seemed after the interview, afterward they will seemingly be too focused on destroying each other to care about going for championships.

That leaves Cody Rhodes and Goldust, Ryback and Curtis Axel and The New Age Outlaws as well as comic-relief teams like Los Matadores and 3MB.

The Usos need more daunting threats than what the bullfighters offered at Main Event. Ryback and Axel have had too many losses, including getting defeated at Elimination Chamber, to feel like viable contenders.

While The New Age Outlaws will eventually get their rematch, they are not the long-term answer.

They are too old to be taken seriously for long. Their recent title run was a surprising story, but fans won't believe that the well-aged underdogs could add another reign to their collection.

Rhodes and Goldust could make an argument that they should be next in line, but their fan favorite status makes them less likely challengers. As strong as those two have looked, they don't compare to how impressive Harper and Rowan have been.

History and Chemistry

The Wyatt Family can not only claim two straight victories over The Shield, but they can also boast about being the ones to finally break "The Hounds of Justice."

The Shield hasn't looked more disjointed and splintered than after falling to Wyatt, Harper and Rowan.

Those victories follow a strong finish to 2013, where Harper and Rowan picked up several wins over The Miz and Kofi Kingston as well as The Prime Time Players before they split, per TheHistoryOfWWE.com. Toward the end of the year, the brutes also knocked off The Usos.

They beat them on the Dec. 9 Raw, and on the Nov. 15 SmackDown, Harper's discus clothesline put a loss on the now-champs' record.

Not only have they proven they can beat The Usos, but they also have led the brothers to some of their best outings. The Usos' aggression is amplified each time they face Harper and Rowan.

In those matches, they have been more than exciting high-flyers. They have been gladiators.

Harper and Rowan are a true test for the champions. If The Usos' Jimmy and Jey can survive against such a massive, vicious team—one that has sent The Shield spiraling downward—they will emerge as titleholders the audience can believe in.

Beating two Attitude Era stars after a few tries is one thing, but besting a pair of bears in boots is the kind of victory that elevates a resume.

In addition, WWE officials know that pitting these two teams together results in enthralling action. The Usos and The Wyatt Family have outstanding chemistry, which was on display when they met on the Jan. 10 SmackDown.

The contrast of speed and power equaled entertainment.

Harper and Rowan are forced to work faster against The Usos. The Usos are forced to include more brawling and intensity in their fights with Harper and Rowan.

All the battles they have had in the past will increase the animosity between the squads should they meet for the titles.

The Usos' fans will be worried their favorites will be dethroned—more so than they would be against Road Dogg and Billy Gunn or any of the other teams in contention. Harper and Rowan are the monsters snapping at The Usos' feet.

WWE has a chance either to have the champs heroically survive this arduous challenge or crown the rising beasts. Either way, fans will be sucked in the whole time.
