Battle Of The Bay: Who Will Win Oakland A's Or San Francisco Giants?

Numan Al-ShammaJun 11, 2009

I don’t usually make predictions, because I am wrong most of the time. With interleague play returning this weekend, I can’t help myself. The series I am talking about is the Battle of the Bay.

From the inception of interleague play, the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco have met 6 times every year. So far, the A’s have dominated the Giants in every series.

I say so far, because the A’s are struggling and the Giant’s are not.

Here is how I see the games going.

Friday’s game: Vin Mazzaro vs. Tim Lincecum

This is a puzzle for me. Two young, talented pitchers are matching up against each other. I am torn. Lincecum has the experience and the skills to shut any team down, while Mazzaro has appeared in only two games. I do believe the A’s offense has woken up, a little late, but are shaking things up.

Winner: Oakland (barely)

Saturday’s game:  Josh Outman vs. Randy Johnson

The classic young verse old. This game hinges on which Johnson shows up.  The fiery, fastball slinging Johnson has to show up or the Giants will be in trouble. Outman has been very dominant, blowing the opposition away. I fear the Giants will not have enough to over come his power.

Winner: Oakland

Sunday’s game: Brett Anderson vs. Matt Cain

For me, this is the easiest game to predict. Anderson is talented but he doesn’t have what it takes to beat Cain. Cain has had only two bad starts this year. The Giants offense seems to be a wake whenever he has pitched this year.

Winner: San Francisco

The A’s have had the National League’s number since interleague play has come into the picture. This year will not be any different. Then again, I am wrong most of the time in my predictions. Only this time, I have a gut feel I’m not.  We’ll see how good I really am at looking to the future.
