Alabama Football on Probation for 3 Years

Charlie JonesJun 11, 2009

While the entire athletic department at Alabama is also effected by the ruling handed down by the NCAA, it is especially disappointing to the Alabama football team. Placing 4th in last years BCS standings the team will be forced to vacate victories gained from 2005 to 2007 as well as serve probation that could stay until the year 2012 unless Alabama appeals.

The issue is in regards to the improper acquisition of free textbooks by student athletes of which at least 7 are Alabama football players. The probation also extends to men’s and women’s basketball, softball, baseball, women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.

Alabama will not lose scholarships over the incident.
