Betting odds have been posted for the 2009 U.S. Open Golf Tournament with Tiger Woods an early 2-1 favorite. Phil Mickelson, who is returning to play a week before the U.S. Open is a respectable favorite as well at 11-1 odds and Geoff Ogilvy is currently sitting 20-1 odds to win.

It is no surprise as to why Woods is the current favorite to win this year’s 2009 U.S. Open. He is not only the No. 1 rated PGA golfer in the world, but he’s also been victorious at the U.S. Open three times, including last year when he was won at Torrey Pines. Woods’ previous victories at the U.S. Open before 2008 were in 2002 and the year 2000.

The 2008 U.S. Open ended in a deadlock between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate, forcing an 18-hole playoff the following day. After playing 90 holes over five days, both players were still tied which was only the third time in U.S. Open history that a winner was decided by a sudden death playoff. On the first sudden death hole, Woods won the tournament with a par to defeat Mediate, who made a bogey. The win made Tiger Woods the sixth player to win three or more U.S. Opens in tournament history.
