See You Later, Sammy. Bye. So Long. Farewell.

I don’t care for it when a guy announces his retirement publicly when it’s been some time since he’s been active.  I mean, it’s kind of well known that Sammy Sosa’s last attempt at making a comeback with the Texas Rangers failed.  And the remaining 29 teams in the league had no interest either.  Why not just hang it up then?

Why make a public announcement now?  I hate to be rude, but Sammy Sosa is as irrelevant today as Dan Petry. 

There have not been a lot of Sammy Sosa posts on this blog, and it’s possible that this is the last.  I am not a Sosa-basher, but I am also not a fan of his!!  I will admit that I enjoyed watching him chase Roger Maris’ home run record.  More than that, I enjoyed watching the fans at Wrigley Field enjoy that experience.  It was fun for everyone, but the good feelings about Sammy Sosa, the baseball player, end there for me.

For me personally, I just don’t care for his style of play.  A true showboat that only embraced the ‘I’ concept.  Sosa could entertain, but was only happy when all spotlights were aimed at him.  To maintain that ranking, he resorted to cheating way too many times just to remain relevant.  And then on top of that, he lied about his cheating claiming innocence.  And when confronted about his lying he suddenly claimed that he did not understand the English language enough to reply in a public manner.

The bat corking incident was a joke.  The steroids scandal was a joke.  The interpreters are jokes.  And his latest attempt to remain in the public eye is a joke.

I really hope that your once-easy ride to Cooperstown gets derailed.  I don’t want t see your flag waving at Wrigley Field.  And I find it embarrassing to see you sitting alongside the other members of the elite 600-HR club.

Goodbye Sammy.  Please take your millions and leave me alone.

Jeez – maybe I am a Sosa-basher.  No need to worry though, this will be my last post about him until his names hits the Hall of Fame ballot.
