This and That
Carlos Zambrano may be a butt-head, but he’s a good one. Aside from winning his 100th career game only days after his 28th birthday, he hit his 18th major league home run today.
He improved on his career .636 OPS, which is just outstanding for a pitcher in the current game. The Cubs will put up with his BS as long as he continues to play like he did today.
Sure do like Giovani Gallardo. He improved to 6-2 today with his second eight innings pitched, two hits allowed game of the season.
Zack Greinke got his brains beaten out by the Jays today. He sure was due for a bad one.
Mike Hampton won his fourth game of the season today. That’s his highest season win total since 2005.
The young Oakland Athletics' seem finally to be putting things together. They’ve won four in a row, which for them is a big deal.
Speaking of winning streaks, the Giants have now won three in a row on the road. They had been 7-16 on the road, so three road wins in a row, even against the Nationals and the Marlins is a big deal. There are now five teams with worse road records than the Giants.
The Giants won 2-1 tonight behind Barry Zito and four shutout innings from the bullpen, and had that rarest of things in Giants Land, a game winning two-run homer from Pablo Sandoval. Mirabile dictu!
