Mets Claim Pat Misch Off Waivers
The Mets claimed former Giant Pat Misch off waivers and assigned him to AAA Buffalo in the International League.
This is good for Misch. He’s the kind of pitcher who needs to have good defense behind him to be a successful Major League pitcher, and the Mets generally play good defense.
It would be even better for Misch if the Mets were still playing in Shea, a well-documented pitchers’ park. It’s too soon to say with any certainty whether the new Mets’ stadium is pitcher- or hitter-friendly, but I would wager to guess that it will be a better hitters’ park than Shea.
Of course, Misch needs to pitch well enough at AAA to get a shot in the show again. Misch is no great shakes, but he costs the Mets almost nothing—the waiver price and a minor league contract. He’s awfully close to being a major league pitcher.
